Converted B of A Cash Rewards to Sig Version - Question

I just got a CLI to $5k on my B of A Cash Rewards card so I did a secure chat with B of A and put in a request to convert to a Visa Sig.

While I was chatting with rep, she asked if I need an EMV chip and I said "that would be nice" but she then aksed if I was willing to forgo my rewards, so I said no thanks.

Do you have to forgo rewards to have the EMV chip or was she trying to convert me to the travel rewards card?

Since i will be issued a new account number, how does the credit reporting work? Will the old tradeline be replaced with the new account number or will the old tradline stick around and show closed?

Dont even know what the benefits are on Visa Sigs, guess ill google it now but stiill kinda cool to get my first Visa Sig. Are the benefits of Visa SIg cards the same across all issuers?

Re: Converted B of A Cash Rewards to Sig Version - Question

In general, the perks are the same at all issuers. You can expect to have the Concierge Service (which is the best perk imo), check the guide to benefits to be sure. Some issuers have additional perks, you can expect perks as described on the visa website

The chat specialist can't be correct. You can get the cash rewards card with an emv chip, not having rewards makes no sense.

I would call them and ask your other questions about the changes.

Re: Converted B of A Cash Rewards to Sig Version - Question

The rep might be referring to forgoing your existing rewards balance, since things do happen when they close and open a new account (it is actually a conversion to a different account). Regardless, I think it's good for you to drain those rewards balance before you do anything drastic to your account.
