Credit Card Advice

Hello. Me again. Lol. So, as I'm reading these forums, everybody says you need 3 cards for AZEO to work properly. And they can't be store cards. Which means I don't have ANY of these cards in my possession. 😂 I really hate credit cards, but want to raise my score. I am thinking of applying for a PenFed card and a navy federal card (these look the most appealing to me, and Penfed was recommended by several people), but I'm lost on the last card I should apply for. I'd like there to be an option to get a secured card, in case I get declined. Can somebody point me in the direction of the list that shows what each place uses when they pull credit? My transunion fico8 is by far the strongest of all my scores. Like by 60 points higher.

Also, after I get my 3, can I close down the 2 store cards I have with Comenity? Realistically, they will probably close on their own because I don't use them. They have terrible interest, and are of no benefit to me. So they sit there with a $0 balance. Will this kill my score? Or should I be ok because I'm getting these other cards? The limits aren't high on them. Total of about $400. They kept lowering my limits because I don't use them enough.

Re: Credit Card Advice

@Cjethompson2017      They can be store cards, but you want the balance to report on a NON store Card for it to work properly Smiley Very Happy     So you would just need to add a Bank type lender Card (1) and have that one to be the one report a small balance 8.9% or below (above 1%) I would recommend NF from Personal Experience and from what I have read from ones that have both and get better rates through Navy over Pen.     Smiley Very Happy

@Girlzilla88 @Ah! Thank you! I didn't catch that part. Lol. I will more than likely try for navy fed first because I've been a member for about a year.

@Cjethompson2017        Yes the fact you have history with them makes it even better!     I love them and there is a lot of great advice here for growing with them too Smiley Very Happy     You may get a low limit first card, (maybe) but they grow quick and go off an internal scoring when established so you having history is good and could possibly help with your first card too especially if it's right at one year or a little over one year Smiley Happy

1.  If all you have is 2 store cards, try it and see what happens.

2.  No one knows for sure that store cards won't work or that 3 are needed. Those are just theories.

3.  Let one report a balance while the other reports zero.

4.  Then the next month let both report a small balance.

5.  The third month let both report zero balances.

Then get back to us and let us know the results.

Re: Credit Card Advice

While not knowing your scores, I would say that credit cards that you would use for very good reason.  I am not a fan of the credit card world either however it is good to have a few for emergency.  Since you are in the same boat and would rather not have them except to maintain a good credit record, use just three and for purchases that you do everyday anyway such as gas, groceries etc maybe online shopping which the growth of rewards will help.  My overall approvals are NFCU, Discover, and American Express which are all negotiable for getting.  Leave the store cards alone because one of the cards mentioned above will surffice for these purposes.  I hope this helps a little bit.
