Granddaughter just left to close on the house she has purchased. She is so excited, and I am excited for her. She has loaded the car with little stuff and as soon as the closing is over and she has the key, she is going to take those things over to her new house. I have been telling her that as soon as she closes, she should starting apping for some more credit cards (she has only three an Blue Cash Preferred, a NFCU Go Rewards, and a Wells Fargo. She is very hesitant. I think she should ap for the Chase Amazon Prime (she does a lot of shopping on Amazon), a Discover because with their store deals you can get 5% back from many places, and a Citi Double Cash.
What do you think about the kind of cards she should apply for and immediately doing so after her closing today?
Make sure she receives keys and the loan funds before she submits and applications.
If she is under 5/24, the first two cards I would apply for are the CSP and the Freedom. If she is not under 5/24, I wouldn't apply for any new cards today and wait until she is under 5/24 and can apply for the CSP and Freedom. She will get a solid cashback card (Freedom) with the opportunity to exchange them for UR points (CSP) which can be more valuable than any cashback card she has.
Make sure that her new address shows up on her credit reports before applying for anything to hopefully avoid potential verification issues.
If she is hesitant, she shouldn't apply at this time. She could do some homework and learn about her options, which could end up with her eventually applying for a card or two or not applying at all. Or she could enjoy her new house and think about cards later.
No need to app for anything - just enjoy her home!
Thanks to all of you for your replies. Some good words of wisdom I will adhere to. Again, thank you.
