Hey y'all!
If there's one thing I've learned reading posts here so far, it's that there's a serious distrust of card offers from Experian CardMatch, Credit Karma, and the like - likely for good reason, since placements are paid.
Anyway, I opened Credit Karma today and while passing the offers section noticed that I was "pre-approved" for the Citi DC - and that "90% of pre-approved applicants get the card":

I'm really interested to hear your guys thoughts on this. There's no solid rate listed when I ask for more info, and because I opened two cards two months ago I don't think Citi would actually like me as a customer yet haha. Considering Citi's own pre-qualification tool is down, I can't even verify on their end. While I do want the DC at some point, I'm gardening till next year so I will not be trying it out, but no one else has posted about this so I thought I'd share

"that I was "pre-approved" for the Citi DC - and that "90% of pre-approved applicants get the card": "
This is not as useful as you think it is. If this said instead:
IN THE LAST 30 DAYS, 90% of pre-approved applicants get the card.
Then it would carry far more weight in your chances. But the way it is written, it could be a statistic that is drawn on data from far happier economic times....That they don't clarify it is a marketing tactic to get applications through since they are paid commission.
Hate to say, you would probably make up the 10% of "Marketing".
Having said that, after gardening for your stated time period, I would just cold app for the DC card.
Their pre-qualification tool was not that great anyhow.
I've had my eye on Citi's own pre-qual tool. I wasn't getting anything Pre-Covid and didn't cold app. Had a home refi in the works and joining some CU's. Around April, their prequal site went down and is still down.
Last month, I too was getting the same messaging from CK. I'd have it for 3 or 4 days and then it disappeared. First I was Preapproved, then disappear again. When it disappeared it would change my odds from "Preapproval" to "Good"
I want their AA Card so I'm patiently waiting for 2021 primarily because of I don't need it now, not flying and all.
To other posters comments, I don't think they have a backdoor to Citi that is providing these versus they own algorythm

A Credit Karma preapproval is still a Credit Karma preapproval lol. Hit submit and support your CK advertisers and Marketers! They need help too
I have the same message for the Citi DC card. It's all marketing. I know I'm pre-approved for the card because I already have the card lol!
Now you can have two! Swap out no-category, flat % rewards for maximum benefit!
Right! Two of the same card should mean double the percentage when used together lol!
