DCU Issues Already

I was approved for a $5,000 DCU Visa.

So now I've been trying to open the savings account required to join the CU and open the credit card. I can't believe how many times I've had to call and see if they had received my documents and they still won't open my account. They say they still need to verify my address, but it's insane because I've already submitted my driver's license, social security card, and a utility bill. They want ANOTHER utility bill which I cannot furnish since it's not my name on the apartment lease, I just sublet.

The last time I called, I was hung up on by a rude representative, so I quickly called back and demanded a manager.

So now I'm waiting for the manager of the new accounts department to call me back. This is insane as my EQ has already taken 2 hits to open this account. I really don't know if I even want this card anymore.

Re: DCU Issues Already

Well, my limit was initially $3000 so I called to ask to bump it to $5000 then I was told to join so I started the process over the phone and emailed the documentation. After that, all the problems began.

Re: DCU Issues Already

I kind of went thru the same. I was approved for 7500 but online it only showed 2000 as my cl. I called and they told me they needed income proof for the full amount. They didnt want me to fax it, they wanted me to drive to a branch(i live in MA). After i did they gave me the 7500. Pain in the ass driving there but worth it.

Re: DCU Issues Already

I'm in NYC (Brooklyn) and my license is not the right address since I moved (staying in Brooklyn) recently. They suggested W2s but I'm a freelancer so I can only provide 1099s which have my old address anyway.

Although I do not have the Visa card (apping for it in Feb) I can tell you that DCU is an excellent credit union.  They have been my primary ' bank' for over 7 years. Regarding the address issue- verification I have noticthe since I joined they have requested multiple documents. My daughter joined a few years ago and she had the same problem -she still lived at home! So, she sent our utility bill along with a copy of her credit card  statement from BofA and they were find with that seemed like they were more concerned with verifying the address.  Idk if it had anything to do with my membership already being established - it doesn't seem that they are not that 'hi tech'.  YMMV, but  I would try sending another item ie car insurance, vehicle registration along with a note saying all other utilities are not in my name- I sublet.

Re: DCU Issues Already

I think that address verification is needed anytime you apply for a card and your address is a new one that doesn't already show up on your report.  Its a smart thing for banks to do, to make sure they aren't sending cards out to identity theives

I agree, except the address I applied under was on my CR at the time of the application.
