I had a whole plan to add some cards to my line up and work a Chase cli in there as well, but after some thought I realized I was just doing it for the sake of it, and didn't have much use for the cards I was going to add, nor do I need any more of a CL on the CFU seeing as I pretty much only use it for the free Dashpass and ocassional safety card if Amex isn't accepted.
As someone with pretty bad ADHD, it's rather easy for me to make impulsive, off the cuff decisions that don't always make sense At least I dodged it this time!
Considering the travel we do, I think I can take advantage of the Amex Sky Miles Reserve (added bonus of probably avoiding a HP). I already have the Platinum card, but I don't really have a solid travel card that isnt a charge card. We primarily fly Delta, and its always Delta One if available so that companion ticket would be nice as well.
The other option is the Sky Miles Platinum, it seems to have way better multipliers for everyday spend and it has a lower AF. Only thing Is I don't really see any benifit in using that over the Platinum card for travel booking, or the Gold card for restaurants/grocery. At the worst I am going to transfer those MRPs to Delta for a 1:1 (unless I'm missing something here). Reserve also seems to have some nicer perks like the Delta One companion ticket, premium status boost, and the two sky club guest passes.
It seems like it makes sense, but is this a redundant addition given the other cards already in my Wallet? I feel like the companion fare alone is enough to justify the AF, but I'm not sure if I'm looking at this properly.
Also, the Subs for both are 95,000 and 85,000, respectively. I have never really followed these cards so I'm not sure if thats decent for them.
Thanks in advance!
I went with the reserve over the platinum because of the SUB, mine was 125k miles and 10k mqm's for 5k spend in 3 months. The platinum would definitely fit my spending better but I felt like what I got at the time (and still do) was worth the AF. I would say it depends on how much you travel, for me I am home 3-4 days a month and they're not consecutive. For the extra 300 dollars a year you get:
1. return protection
2. complimentary centurion lounge access (you can only access it by being an Amex member / card holder I believe)
3. complimentary delta lounge access (without it's around 550 a year) and it's a much better experience at the airport
4. 2 comped guest passes (it's like 40 dollars per person afterwards/without)
5. Concierge service
6. as you mentioned the premium companion ticket 1x per year but after you pay the AF a second time
7. A better status boost
8. depending on your status you're added to the complimentary upgrade list and say you're diamond it should put you ahead of other diamond members who do not have the card.
I'm just a standard member 11 MQD's away from sliver and I've been upgraded several times already even flying out of Atlanta. Ill make silver when I go home Friday, and since silver grants me a free checked bag as well as the Reserve card I'll be able to check 2 bags for free for the next year along with anyone else on the same reservation as me. This should save my employer enough to make it worth it for them as well - not that they seem to care too much.
Hope this helps (I get the ADHD) I'm in the same boat with you!

Yeah I think it's the move, there are some benifits that overlap with the plat but whatever. I think overall even if the only extra benifit I realize is the fist class companion ticket, it's worth it. Also, I should have absolutely no problem hitting the $25K spend to waive the MQD requirement.
