What's the basis for saying this? I would think that the decision to increase a credit line would be a less risky decision overall than the decision to extend new credit to a customer you didn't have a previous relationship with. If the second-level CSRs or whatever you want to call them have more discretion to override denials for new credit applications, why wouldn't they have similar discretion to override denials for CLI requests.

+1
Also, as previously pointed out, Chase's "backdoor" number does lead precisely to the individuals who can handle CLI issues.

1. credit balances to high

Ive read that some people call back door numbers and get the CLI's anyways. Can you advise me on how I can request this?
Thanks.
I have no clue what's going ON. Everyone is talking about backdoor and recon. A million threads talking about getting credit by recon and sometimes 3-4 recons.
Why can't people understand that the computer doesnt understand anything about you and always makes a judgemement based on your credit profile. Unless there is some special case (which looks bad on file than it actually is), people should be working on fixing their profile not looking for recon.
I am sorry if it sounds harsh but, If you already have too much debt, you should be looking at fixing it, not trying to get new credit accounts. In addition to that you should be setting up a plan on how to avoid lates in future. Credit will come to you at its own and at better terms.
Huh??????
Nice to know that you have a crystal ball that determines who has or has not too much debt. Instead of sweeping, broad generalizations (which are, by the way, false) you might ask what the OPs UTIL is. Some banks can consider a certain percentage too much and others not.
Further, as previously pointed out, people request CLIs for a variety of different motives. So, in addition to that crystal ball, you also have ESP. Great trick!
The simple fact is that Chase and other banks have people available for recon. Most creditors realize that computer decisions can be flawed. There's a reason why they don't change their recon number or just brush everybody off that calls, you know.
Worst case scenario, you get a decent explanation by the recon analyst of how your credit looks and what steps will help.

This is not what I am trying to point out. All I am trying to point out is that at a forum like this, we should also emphasize that the best way to have a good credit is to use it wisely and pay on time. I said it earlier and am repeating it, I am not against recon and agree that it's a great tool and worth a try.
I also agree with your point that the caller will atleast get a more sensible explanation about the decision.
I do understand that people have problems and have to go through hell at times, be it bk, ca or lates. I will never blame anyone in those conditions.
My only concern is that I feel we may actually be encouraging irresponsiveness towards credit and implicitly indicating to younger people that even if they don't care about their credit they can hack things, tell false stories and get the credit. Is there a single reply in the thread that tells the OP that she needs to be more careful and pay her loans on time?
I have no bad intentions against anyone, but on the other hand, I can't explain how I feel when I realize that so many kids just out of college pay most of their paychecks to the CCCs because they had a few pizzas in the college without thinking if they can afford it.
I want to see american kids coming out of college working hard and making money for themselves and their future not for the credit card companies.
I did not intend to offend anyone and offer sincere apologies to any and everyone who got offended.

Again with the crystal ball.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but all I read is a simple statement that "1 late recorded for school loan". This could have happend 7 years ago. It could have happened because the lender -- as so many student loan lenders do -- messed up. I see abolutely no supporting details that could lead a reasonable person to suggest that OP might not have a legitimate chance at recon. And your generalization about "so many kids just out of college" and "tell false stories" as somehow applying to either OP or college students in general is, sorry to say, sad. Very sad.
Personally, I don't think Chase credit analysts are that foolish to believe every story they hear these days. But then again, I don't have a crystal ball.

Yeah I think there is or at least there was a couple 2-3 years ago. I was automatically denied a CLI and called when I got the denial letter in the mail. I got the increase after I explained I needed a larger limit to really use the card.
The fact that they are on this board tells me they are learning what to do with credit. I wish I had of been smart enough to find out about credit and ask questions on how to do things when I was younger but it is never to late to learn. Just because they are in college dosnt mean they are irresponsible.
They are on here learning just like most of us. We are not suppose to be here to judge how someone handles their credit but help with any questions they may have about what to do or how to fix. Thanks to these forms I have came along way and have learned alot on how to rebuild the nightmare my ex put me in.
Instead of the childish bickering how about helping the OP?
