Hello to all! I've been a regular browser of the site, but this is my first post..
Okay, so I get a pre-approval letter in the mail from AMEX last week. I didn't take it too serious because I've been in serious re-building mode for the past year. After looking around for a few days, though, I decided to apply. (Should have pulled my FICO first, but didn't)
Got an instant denial
. Today, the letter with the explanation of denial comes, and I find out I have a FICO of 667. Not great, but certainly good enough for AMEX Green, right??? The negative "key factors" are all over 12 months old, from what I can tell.
I guess back to the garden for me.......... Any suggestions on what they're looking for?

What were the reasons you were denied for?
Scores aren't just the only thing they look at. I was denied for bcc with a fico score of 768. The analyst over the phone was surprised and I was happy (because I found out my score was 768).
this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Give us the denial reasons
FICO score
High UTI -- I think at the time it was around 40%.
Too many inq. According to CreditKarma, I have 9.
Now that I thnk about it, I applied for AMEX BEFORE I paid my CCs off, which is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've done this year.
The inq's, I can't do anything about. I was going a bit app crazy late last year for the holidays without thinking. But the UTI will be below 10% the next time I apply... Which I will probably wait 60 days to do. That will probably do the trick, I'm guessing.

You'll have to wait 30 days to re-app. I would consider waiting 6 months.
I'm leaning towards waiting longer as well. Now that I know how important # of inq's are, I don't want to waste another one on a "maybe".
