Re: Describe your Citi card (CLI) growth.

Back on the 14th, I wrote:

Those that have Citi cards and are the type to regularly (say, every 6 months) request CLIs, I'm curious to hear about your growth. I've heard some success stories of people being able to grow their Citi cards quite a bit, but to go along with those success stories there are equally as many where slow growth has been referenced. Information worth sharing would be:

1 - The type of Citi card, your SL and your CLIs listed out over X period of time.

2 - Your typical spend/payment pattern on the card.

3 - Whether or not you have other Citi cards, a previous "relationship" (history) with them and your total exposure if so.

4 - A little basic profile data: Thick/thin file, young/aged, clean/dirty, low/high utilization, etc. Perhaps your BCE 8 Score from your account.

5 - Anything else you feel is worth mentioning, such as income (if you feel it's relevant to your growth or lack of).

I'll start: My card is a Citi DC. SL $7300 ---> $12,300 (6 months) --> $19,300 (1 year) --> $23,300 (1.5 years). I have no other Citi cards. Typical spend is around $3000 per month on average, some months I've gone maybe twice that with a "high balance" of ~$7200 on the account. I've always PIF, having never paid any interest. My file is clean/thick/aged with aggregate utilization always in the 1%-4% range. Income is upper 5-figures and my EQ BCE 8 Scores through their site have fluctuated in the 850-875 range over the course of the last year.

I know some people have given up a HP as well in attempt to grow their limit quicker on a Citi card, so if you're someone that's done this it would be good to know how it worked out for you. There have also been few and far between examples of people receiving a CLI in < 6 months from the previous one, so if you've ever experienced that I'd love to hear about it as well. Thanks to all that contribute!

Re: Describe your Citi card (CLI) growth.
So back in 5/17 I got my Citi DC. It came with a $4500 limit.

As soon as I got it I requested a HP CLI (before I knew better). They bumped me up to $6000. Subsequent CLIs (all SP)...

11/17 - $6K -> $8K
5/18 - $8K -> $10K

11/18 - $10K -> $12K

I put anywhere between $500 and $2000 on the card every month.

I also have a Citi Premier, which I got in 7/17 and it came with an $8000 limit. I've been able to get CLIs on it on the same schedule as my DC (all SP)...

11/17 - $8K -> $10K

5/18 - $10K -> $12K

11/18 - $12K -> $15K

Spend is not quite as regular on this card, since I only use it depending on promo offers or if I'm spending money on travel. Most months it's $0, but sometimes it's $2000. They did not give me a retention offer when I called after year 1. I kept the card anyway, but I likely won't after year 2. We'll see.

Before those, I had a Citibank Visa like 25 years ago. I honestly don't remember how that ended.

I pay in full every month. Income is just north of 6 figures. Accounts with other banks are in my sig.

Re: Describe your Citi card (CLI) growth.
1 The type of Citi card, your SL and your CLIs listed out over X period of time. Simplicity card SL 2800 CLI zip zilch nada

2 - Your typical spend/payment pattern on the card. Took advantage of the BT offer and after paid off have not used it much at all

3 - Whether or not you have other Citi cards, a previous "relationship" (history) with them and your total exposure if so. Only card with them, included them in BK 05, had been previously blacklisted. Interestingly enough when I apply for any other product, then pull usually 2 HPs and then deny based on "previously adverse account with them" strange I know

4 - A little basic profile data: Thick/thin file, young/aged, clean/dirty, low/high utilization, etc. Perhaps your BCE 8 Score from your account. Score per citi 725, AAOA 2.4 years, 3% utilization, only negative a few lates from mortgage 1 1/2 years since.

5 - Anything else you feel is worth mentioning, such as income (if you feel it's relevant to your growth or lack of).

Although they let me back in, I feel like I have been bucketed somehow for previously relations.

Just going with mine and not DW's...

1.) Diamond Preferred SL was $5600 2 years ago. $1200 SP CLI about 2 months after opening then SP CLIs every six months: $1200, $3500, $2500, $1500. Citi Premier SL was $3000 in April. Tried a HP upon activation and declined. SP CLI of $1500 about 2 months after opening.

2.) On Diamond Preferred, I probably only put about $2-3k on it in total over the past 2 years. I rode that 21 month 0% balance transfer, but since there was no chance of accruing interest I did use it extensively every time they would give me targeted offers for 5% back. On Premier, I've only run about $6k through it over the past 6 months.

3.) I'm an AU on DW's circa 2004 $24,600 Double Cash and circa 1996 $10,000 Best Buy store card. My previous relationship with Citi is 3 low-limit store cards that have all been closed (Shell ~15 years, NTB ~11 years, Home Depot ~6 years).

4.) Very thick file. Aged. Clean. History of extended very high utilization but teens/20s over the past couple of years. EQ 08 BCE has been all over the board from low 700s to nearly 800. Currently showing 747 but it's a bit deflated since my mortgage got transferred to another lender (and an open one is not currently listed) and all of the AU cards disappeared from my EQ reports bringing my AAoA and total credit age down.

5.) Income in the 200s, obviously not relative to my Citi credit lines. I think they're more concerned with the number of new accounts opened over the past few years and/or the actual dollar amount of revolving debt I have.

Re: Describe your Citi card (CLI) growth.

For a thread like this new datapoints are always welcome so don't apologize.

Having said that I'll add my own.

12/01/18 - Premier approved, $7.3k CL

03/01/19 - SP CLI $2k, $9.3k CL

03/01/19 - HP CLI $5k, $14.3k CL

Spending anywhere from $2k-$3k month til March while testing merchants and how they code with categories. On HP request I asked for $25k and they declined full amount due to card being recently approved. We'll see what they do in June for me on both SP/HP requests.

Re: Describe your Citi card (CLI) growth.

I'm at 6mo. Point again I feel I'm leaving some on the table ...FICO 795 - 805

From what I've read, it seems that most strong CLIs from Citi (especially HP CLIs) come after the account is a year old.  There are some examples of pretty good success at 6 months, but those are usually from individuals that have had other Citi accounts/history.  It seems that once you have had an account for a year that they're more comfortable and willing to grow at a stronger rate.

I'm hoping for a decent CLI (SP) next month on my DC card, as my account will have just crossed the 2 year mark in age by then.

Do you use the card quite a bit?

I'd venture to guess around a $5k CLI feels about right.

Re: Describe your Citi card (CLI) growth.

Best Buy store card 5 years ago when util was high.  $600.  Never an unsolicited CLI.  4% total util for over a year at this point.  Still nothing.

Have never requested one.  Don't want the HP.
