Hi symphonix,
I've spilt off your post to start a new thread in Credit Cards. All I changed was the title-MarineVietVet, myFICO moderator.
Someone include me here on a dillema I have. I just opened a US Airways card and was approved and I was thinking to get Citi AAdvantage in the next month or two. However, this leaves me with a question to all of you annual fee card holders. Let's say I open these two cards and then decide for a CSP and\or Venture or some other type reqards program with an annual fee. What am I going to do in a year or two with all these cards and annual fees? I cannot possibly use them all the reap the rewards and just stick to one or two cards would be beneficial. Cancelling is out of the question so do you all just cough up the AF?
Why is cancelling out?

Because it's the Hotel California of CC... Once you sign up for that AF, get ready for a long run
I'm with WillTeasle. Why is cancelling out ?

It's not out, I was trying to make a joke.
The simple answer to OP question is that many on here open cards just to get the bonus, and then close the account after a year. There is almost as much angst over timing the closure to avoid the AF as there was about whether to app the card.
Personally, I don't believe in it; when I open a card it is for the long run, but to each their own strategy.
you can always product change into different barclay credit cards, but they are coming out with 4 different version of aa aviator credit cards and yes they will have non-af version as well , you can read about it here
