Discover Appreciation Post

I've had Discover for about 5 and 1/2 years now, and never knew how awesome they were until now.

Last month I asked for my first CLI—they gave me $1k. Then after taking some inspiration from this form,  I asked if there was any apr promotions available and they gave me 0% for a year! This month I asked for another CLI and they gave me another $500! ($700 -> $1700 -> $2200 in two months!)

And it's all been great timing since shortly after I got the APR promo, my landlord decided to not renew my lease & gave 15 days to move. I honestly don't know where I'd would be without Discover right now. Being able to front immediate moving costs, with no interest, while keeping my cash flow intact for initial deposits has been a lifesaver.

I can't recommend them enough!

Very nice all around, well, except for the landlord that is, but at least you're in a position to make things work in your favor.

hopefully you check your local laws for how long of a heads up a landlord needs to give you to move out after ending tenancy at the end of a lease, 15 days sounds really short

So the lovely state of FL only requires 15 days. But my county goes farther (I believe 60). Problem is, they've been problematic to deal with and I don't want to give them a dime. Plus lawyering up would likely mean facing eviction proceedings, and I don't want to deal with that mess.

Re: Discover Appreciation Post

Sending you good thoughts on your move. I know how stressful that can be.

Is 15 days legal where you live? I thought everywhere was minimum 30 days (unless it was an eviction).

Re: Discover Appreciation Post

Personally, I'm not a big fan.

- 5% categories keep getting worse and worse.

- Very stingy with CLI's in my experience. I've had better luck with every other lender I asked a CLI, even Cap1.

- Existence of 0% APR BT offers are nice, but the BT fee is higher than other banks.

- Based on some threads in this forum, they have a habit of randomly asking for tax returns with no obvious change in scores/reports. If this happens to me I'm closing my account, there are much better cards out there from banks that feel like they appreciate my business more.

Re: Discover Appreciation Post

Congrats on your increases. 5.5 years is a long time to have the card, I'm surprised the limits not higher tbh.

I think Disco is really nice the 1st year for the double cashback. Idk your scores or profile or anything, but if you're looking for higher limits it may be wise to check another bank & even a new discover.

15 days is crazy too Smiley Surprised wow. Sorry to hear - hope all gets situated for you!

Re: Discover Appreciation Post

I agree with @GatoradeZeroGuy What happened to 30 days notice? Never heard of 15 days notice to move!

Re: Discover Appreciation Post

OP is correct. Fl isnt tenant friendly. A Florida landlord can terminate without cause a month-to-month tenancy by giving the tenant a written notice at least 15 days before the end of the monthly period. The notice must inform the tenant that the tenancy will end in 15 days and that the tenant must move out of the rental unit by that time. (Fla. Stat. § 83.57 (2022).)
