Discover IT WoW First Pre-Approval in Years!

It's been awhile since I had a "real pre-approval" from major credit card companies. To my surprise I received one from Discover this morning! Unfornately I called and I was told because I have a secured credit card they can't open an unsecured card. I have to cancel my secure to "try" for the one I received. I just applied with them before I applied for secured and I was declined. So I dont think I have a real chance with this pre-approval anyway. Anyone else have been denied and then received a pre-approval? did you try? what was your result? Thanks all! Still - excited to see some offers Yay to Credit Repairing!

I hear Discover it Secured has the potential to graduate after 1 year. Instead of cancelling the Secured and applying for an unsecured, why not wait it out?

Congrats on receiving one. I felt great too but after receiving 5 in 2 months and still being left without a chair to sit when the music stops, just be careful when deciding to apply again. Hopefully you have or will have a profile they like. Positive thoughts for you on your credit journey!

I agree......just wait it out with your secured card. Within a year, it will graduate if your credit profile supports it......and it could also graduate sooner. I had the secured card, and it graduated exactly one year and one week from the day I opened it. Trust me this will be the best thing....plus If you were just denied, I don't see how your profile could have changed much in that short of a time.

Also, is the mailer a pre-approved or a pre-qualified? Pre-qualified does not mean you are guaranteed to get it....heck in this day and age, even pre-approved can mean a denial if tehre are many changes to your profile from when they sp the report.

yeah when FNBO had one a few years back my credit was terrible so I couldn't get it... and now they no longer accept applications as I guess it has been discontinued?

My buddy's non-EMV original card still works though...

Hahah Sorry about that! I should have just put my WOW in all caps! Anyway, it will be super cool to have a WoW card wouldn't it? I'll be an ORC! hahaha
