I guess they want to improve their profit margins, but they're going to lose clients faster than they imagine. I'm selling their stocks any day now!

It's hard to say, honestly. Most consumers don't pay much attention to the perks/protections/rewards, at least not to the level of most of us on the forums.
So I would say plenty of people aren't even going to notice, much less take their business elsewhere!
I got my Discover IT like a year ago with an SL of $2000, and it has been increased to $4k5. I have never noticed that they even had deals (lol). I only use it for 5% category anyway, so it's not a big deal for me.

And before that, Costco used to accept Discover only!
(Which is why I opened a Discover account in the first place, back in 1996...)

Are you sure you're not thinking of Sam's Club?
I have to admit that Discover is my rewards "cash cow". Over $800 rewards in total during first year, got a second card and hoping to get more than that second year.
Nerfing the Discover Deals did make me cry crocodile tears, as I was getting 10% counting match from Walmart online.

Yes, I'm quite sure, thank you... (I've never even set foot in a Sam's Club.)
Costco was Discover-only until the end of the 90s, before switching the contract to Amex.
I was fairly pissed-off at how they handled the switch back then, too.
