that's just going to depend on what the balance is, credit line, age of account, credit score... no way to say as each person will be different but I don't think you need $0 exactly but not 90% maxed out either.

Re: Discover cli question

I have a limit of $1400 currently have $300 balance always pay in full before due date usually run around $1000 a month thru card making a couple payments each month so I don't get close to limit I've had card since February 2014 would use more if the limit was higher and my scores are all currently around 645-660 range my discover fico last month was 655

Re: Discover cli question

You could ask for if they could do a Soft pull increase. That way it wont hurt you. And as for balance i always do $0 personally. They should be able to see that they use their card since its run through them.

you can try for a sp CLI every 90 days... Id probably wait 6 months and try to get score up a little more to take a hp cli.

Re: Discover cli question

Yesterday I tried for a CLI with $1130/$2000, they raised it another 1000.  CSR noted how well I was doing with the card (I use it A LOT!) and that I pay on time and always 3X min payment (usually shoot for 15-20X).  I've been carrying a balance with Discover lately to see if it helps me get a CLI down the road automagically with a SP.  This was a CLI I actually needed however so I was willing to take a HP for it (didnt want to be to close to my CL when I did a BT).  If your report looks good and you havent had any baddies lately I'd try for a CLI.  They just ask what you need it for be honest and they have no problem approving them.

Re: Discover cli question

Just got an auto CLI.

$2k --> $5.7k.

1 year old card.

Last statement was first time with Discover that I had a zero balance. My use on Discover is still $0.

I was rejected an SP CLI about 10 days ago. I think making Discover zero-balance and also AMEX zero balance in the last statement improved my scores a bit. My overall utilization was still not good (about 35% before this raise).
