I'm pretty sure some of you still remember that AMEX CLD story back in 2008.
So my situation is I added my dad to my new AMEX Blue. He works in a small town in Georgia so all they have overthere are a Super Walmart, a TJ Maxx (Marshalls), a Lowes, few dollar stores. I'm worry that I'll get CLD after my dad starts using the card.
In a word, no. Why would Amex punish their customers for shopping at a retailer they offer gift cards etc for on the Amex shop site? All the stories you have read are anecdotal at best. For every person that says they got CLD for shopping at Wal Mart or a liquor store there are hundreds of thousands of people who shop there every day with no consequenses. Including myself. Ive used my Amex at almost all of the "taboo" stores you hear people talk about and not a peep from Amex. Again, anecdotal, but it makes my point.
Back in 2008 it wasnt just Amex taking AA against their customers. Every major bank out there was balance chasing, etc. It wasnt just Amex.

Trust me when I say if Amex CLD you, it won't be because you shopped at Walmart. Use it anywhere you want to. They encourage it.
Just pay your bill on time, stay under your CL and you won't have any problems.

Anecdotal and not from personal experience, but the jury may still be out on the case of paying a lawyer with your AMEX...
Divorces, lawsuits, tax issues...these things (and others that are handled by lawyers) tend to impact financial health, and could make AMEX (or any lender) nervous.
Just an observation, and IMO only.
Gambling casinos will make Am Ex nervous too. But (1) every time you use your card at Wal-Mart Am Ex makes money and (2) you can find the W-M logo on the Am Ex site. Why advertise a merchant if they intend to punish you for shopping there?
