So I have a Chase Amazon card and I have absolutely no use for it anymore. I originally used it for Amazon purchases (being a law student I purchase a lot of books so it was used quite often). However, now that I have a SallieMae card which offers 5% CB, I have no use for it now. I've been using the card once a month to buy my prescriptions at Walgreens (since it offers 2% CB), but other than that, it just sits in the sock drawer.
Is there a benefit to keeping the card? Or should I just close the account? Or is there a possibility that Chase would move over my CL to my Freedom? I've only had the card for three months, so removing it wouldn't harm my AAoA.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
Generally moving CL from one Chase card to another is easy (have to call, not available on line). Sometimes you will need to keep $500 on the old card if you don't close it.
Just make sure that your other cards cover the categories, I think Chase Amazon also does 2% on restaurants and on drug stores for example. If those were useful, then maybe keep, otherwise transfer CL and close.

Good points. Yeah, I use it at drugstores. But that is usually no more than $30/month tops. As for restaurants, I mostly eat fastfood and I use my debit card for this. The bank where I do my checking requires me to do 15 transactions/month in order to get 2% interest on my entire checking account balance. So I make a lot more from using my debit 15x/month than using the Amazon card which only gives 2% CB on purchases.
I'm in the process of wanting to get my US Bank Cash Rewards bumped up to a Visa+ Signature. So I really need get a CLI to $5k to do that. I was thinking if I consolidated my two Chase cards just to my Freedom, having that CL might help? Or am I wrong to assume that?
I also will be due for my 61 day Amex CLI here soon as well. So I'm really wanting to have a couple more cards at or around $5k+ to possibly get a good CLI from US bank in 6 months.
I'm in the same boat as you with my Chase Amazon. I want to transfer the limit to my Freedom, and because its such a low limit (1400) I hope they dont withhold 500 if i close the card.
There's definitely no harm is keeping it open but...I think I will close mines. It served it's purpose, and now its a waste of space. So chuck it!
I don't use mine either, but I don't need to transfer the CL to either my Freedom or CSP, as I have more than enough there already. So being lazy, just keeping it open until one day I will decide what to do.
Chase amazon could use a facelift per say. Maybe 5% back on amazon 3% on restaurants? I do shop at staples a lot so the 2 points back there is helpful

Ink cash has 2% back on restaurant and 5% back on office supplies.

one day i will get that card
I had the Chase Amazon VISA until earlier this year. It was stuck for some time at only a 1K CL, and I wasted a Chase HP to try to get the CL increased, but to no avail. I finally closed it in April and had its huge 1K CL transferred over to my Chase Sapphire card, with no problems at all!
