E-Z Pass in Massachusetts codes as Category: Other - Government Services on American Express.  Assuming that's because the charge is actually from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MASSDOT).

please use your VISA/MC to see anything different because sometime visa/mc/discover/amex don't have the same recognition for MCC code

Oh yeah, I'm the king of telling people how things code differently on different payment networks.  We get the "Chase didn't give me credit for X merchant who were in Y bonus category, they're horrible!" posts all the time. Smiley Wink

Can someone else in Mass check their card statement to see how it codes?  I don't have another card that matches or beats my current Amex net rewards redemption whether it's government or travel, so I'm unwilling to change it for a data point.

I am not surprised.  Venture sees the cabins and small hotels that I stay in WI as entertainment.  I just PC'd my Venture to QS.

FYI - The Illinois I-Pass comes up coded gas/automative on my Ventue card.

My Chase Sapphire Preferred sees it as Travel.
