Our other three cards have limits of $3k (Lowes), $1.5k (Kohls) and $4k (an old Chase Flex), so a total of 34 cards with an average C/L of $11,659.
Chris.
May I ask how long it took you to build up this incredible list?
It appears fewer cards fetch higher limits. Some people having 20+ cards with average limits in the 5000s. But others have 11 cards with $10K average.
I think it does make a difference in terms of what creditors will give you based on your current limits. Of course, scores/income/aaoa/util come into play as well.
My stats:
- 17 open accounts
- min CL: 4k
- max CL: 25k
- average CL: 12.7k
15 months ago I had 1 cc with a $320 CL

That's a little over one new card a month.

About seven years. I realize that's child's play compared to some around here (like the poster in this thread who accumulated 24 cards in two years). But I've been taking my time, applying for cards which have nice start up bonuses or will be good cards for me for the long run.
Chris.
I couldn't even fathom having 15+ cards. I think I would go into cardiac arrest, especially at my age. I only have 5, but only use 3. However, my lowest cl is $10,600. I like fewer cards with much larger cl's. My avg across the 5 is $19k.

I'd be content with 5-7 cards with $20K+ lines.
Unfortunately, I think for most people they probably had to cancel many small limits before getting up to high limits on a few.

My biggest concern with having so many cards is that they can create distractions from earning rewards on my highest rewards card.
I have more than a few cards. I also have a 40+ year total credit history with my oldest account currently showing at over 23 years.
Current cards range from Diners Club at $50K to Chase Slate at $6K...my lowest limit. Most of my cards were approved with at least $5K CL to start, several with $10K to start.
Nearing retirement, so some of these cards are going away/merging with other cards. My total number will decrease, but plan on keeping my total available credit at ~ $200K.
@JSS3 wrote:My signature says it all. My goal is to get a 5,000 CL(minimum) on all cards in the coming year.
This is my goal as well. Right now, I'm at a total of 11 cards with an average limit of $4,500 (range $1K to $10K). 5 of these cards are at $5K or above. Not bad I guess, considering I had a total of $17K in credit available less than six months ago. My goal is to get the other six above $5K (while also going for SP increases for the rest), hopefully with SPs only. The good news is that all the lower limit cards I have actually do SPs.
