Does anyone know if AMEX offers price protection?

I know that they offer purchase protection, but what about if you buy something, and the price goes down?

I booked a cruise and it is now being advertised at a lower price, and the cruise company won't honor the difference!!

Thank you

Not that I'm aware of, at least I have never seen this feature advertised.   What is the price difference ?

Do what you can to see if you can get the difference, but don't beat yourself up over it if you can't.  This happens with some things.  Things like airline tickets and cruises change as they start to see that they might not sell all the spots.  Just part of the game.

Do they penalize for cancelling your previous trip and just rebooking at this new price?

Re: Does anyone know if AMEX offers price protection?

Good point as to this is the part of the game.. I understand but hey if price protection was one of AMEX's benefits I would be glad to use it.

I used my card for my friend to book in addition to mine. The total difference is about $400.

Any yes, they will penalize severely for a cancellation.

Some cruise lines will give you an on board credit. Carnival will only reduce the price if you booked at a rate that was "guaranteed" to be the lowest.  Most cruise lines will reduce your fare, but only BEFORE you have made final payment. Once final payment is due, they reserve the right to sell at lower prices to fill tthe unsold berths. On occasion (not with Carnival), some cruise lines will give you an upgrade to a better stateroom.  Call your travel agent. They have the right backdoor access to get the job done, if it is at all possible.

As a side note to everyone:

ALWAYS use a travel agent.

It should NEVER cost you more money to use a travel agent. You might even save money that way.  Travel agents are paid commission by the cruise lines. You will pay the same price, but when you book direct the cruise line keeps that money.  The travel agent is your biggest advocate with the cruise lines, and is aware of discounts that you will not always see online.  A good agent will monitor your account and catch those reduced fares when possible BEFORE final payment.

Also, price protection will not apply with any CC for airfares or cruises.

Re: Does anyone know if AMEX offers price protection?

According to this, Amex dropped the benefit in 2006.  Smiley Sad http://creditcardforum.com/blog/amex-citi-chase-credit-card-price-protection/

Re: Does anyone know if AMEX offers price protection?

The only card I've see that offers price protection (up to $500) is my Chase Explorer.  Not sure if other Chase cards offer this.

However, I'm not sure it'll apply to airfare.
