EMV vs. ExpressPay Chipped Amex Cards

I got my BCE converted to ExpressPay but read here that AMEX is pursuing EMV.  I know little about EMV, so is it mutually exclusive or complimentary to ExpressPay?

Re: EMV vs. ExpressPay Chipped Amex Cards

It's just a totally different thing.  I suppose you could say it is complimentary.  ExpressPay is contactless payment using near field technology.  EMV chip and signature or chip and PIN cards are using a chip with encrypted information for greater security.

The US is behind in EMV technology while Express Pay is more widely used in the US

Re: EMV vs. ExpressPay Chipped Amex Cards

Thanks, Walt.  I've started using ExpressPay more often - mostly just a conscious effort to see it work, and sadly, it isn't as reliable as mag-swiping.

Re: EMV vs. ExpressPay Chipped Amex Cards

I would go with EMV. I have ExpressPay/Blink/PayPass and almost never use it, and when I try it seems that 50% of the time it doesn't even work. EMV on the other hand may come in handy when you're overseas.
