EQ: 703 TU: 680 are these good cards to app for?

I have no open CCs on my reports.

I pulled both FICOs this morning and thanks to last 2 CAs coming off EQ it jumped from 649 to 703 WOOHOO!

So, I have ficos of tu:680  and eq: 703  no clue on EX

No inquiries on EQ and 2 on TU and EX.   Any derog info is older than 2yrs.   I do have 2 COs from 2008 (reporting zero balance).   I have no collections.

Today I would like to app for a few cards and here are my thoughts:

1)  Go down to my CU and app for their Visa  (worst case they do offer a secured version I'm prepared to put $ on if needed)

2)  Apply online for Discover IT

3)  Apply in store for Macy's  or Lowe's   (I would use either, not sure if one "looks better" or would be easier to get)

Are these obtainable?  Would you suggest another card in lieu of one of these?

Discover IT $5,200 / CU Visa $1,000 / JC Penny$3,000

It would say any of the above are obtainable with your scores! Some cards wont accept you without previous revolving accounts but the ones you listed are more likely to approve you anyways. How worried are you about inquiries? If not at all, go for Discover IT, then MACY'S or Lowes, and if youre denied all of those, then go for the secured card. If you dont want to risk more inquiries, then just stick with the secured, wait a least 6 months, then app for others. Happy apping and to building your credit!

Thanks! I've had bad/poor credit for so long and literally JUST got these scores last night so I'm still gun-shy about denials haha.

I'm not too worried about inquiries, I'm still 6mos out from homebuying so I'd rather app for more now and then let the inq's age.

Wow! Congrats!!! You are up there with me now! Very cool! :-) The Capital One Cash Rewards card is another great card to have. They are stingy with credit limit increases but other than that I have had absolutely no problems with Cap1. I've earned $125 cash back since July and my credit limit is $2500.

Discover IT is also a good card too. I plan to app for that in September.

Thanks :-)  I am still worried about denial since it's been forever since I applied and got new credit.....

We shall see shortly!

I like how you are a positive thinker :-)

I did make another post ( if you want the details: click here), but it's probably on page 2 or 3 now with how quickly this page moves haha!

Bottom line....CU is pending due to shortened branch hours today...she did send it off to UW though so should hear back on Tuesday.  I asked for $1,500.

Went home, pulled the trigger on Discover IT....answered some extra questions, got the please call to expedite screen and called.  VERY nice rep and I chit chatted a bit, verified some info and voila....$4,000 limit!!!     Yeah, I was speechless....still am in shock!

I didn't app Macy's/Lowe's yet because..........I don't know if UW pulled my credit report yet on the CU card and if they didn't I don't know that I want to run the chance of them seeing a few other apps on the same day for store cards????

Good idea I would wait until you get a decision from the CU before you do the other apps.

Yeah that's what I was thinking.

Although I would LOVE to app for Macy's in store tomorrow for their Presidents Day Sale ugh....I would faint if they said "oh you got the amex version" LOL.  Not holding my breath but it sure would rock  ;-)
