So I received a call from 877-838-4347 today telling me I was approved for my credit card and wanted to give me the terms and they are having a balance promotion of 12 months for 0% and did I want to transfer my balances. She told me I was approved for $8000. I told her I didn't have my information with me and she said thats ok I am looking at your credit report right now and I see you have a balance of $... with (insert cc here). I told her I didn't even have the card with me so she told me she would call me back tomorrow. I didn't think nothing of it but could this be legit. The reason I ask is I did receive a pre approval letter in mail about a month ago and applied but the next day someone broke in my car and stole my car insurance card and some weird things so I put a fraud alert on all my credit reports. I had called this week to check status bc they had called me about a week ago to confirm I had wanted to apply and I assured them I did and they advised me I should receive a letter in the mail in about 7-10 business days. I see the inquiry on my credit report. I have just never heard of the credit card company calling you before you get the approval letter much less the card or are they really just trying to push the balance transfer thing. I will call the credit union I applied through or received the preapproval letter from but wanted to see if this happened to anyone else?
Ok I was able to find the credit union and called their card services and they gave me the number for member services which had an option to check on a cc application and it said I was approved so I am assuming it is legit.
Elan Financial service is the underwriter, I believe that is what they are called but the card is through ic federal credit union. I thought you had to be a part of a cu to app for a credit card but received the pre approval letter in the mail and I am not a member of that credit union. Elan is actually tied to US Bank somehow bc that is who comes up when I google the phone number.
I applied for the Emigrant Direct card which is also Elan. I believe Keybank is too.

On a side note, I was denied for too many inquiries.
Edited to add: oops, I meant to edit the post above this one, sorry.
I thought they were going to deny me bc it took a month for them to notify me of an approval. granted I did have a fraud alert so that took a little longer but a month? It's my highest limit besides by carecredit card that I use for dental.
i tried apping for an elan cc from a cu and was denied only then i found out that they were underwritten by us bank

Is this a good or bad thing?
Elan is very conservative with their card approvals and limits. I beleive it is owned US Bank or one of the other major banks. Just like FIA is owned by BOA and First USA owned by Chase.
