US Bank reports whatever balance exists on the last business day of the month. There is no flexibility and they do not connect with the statement cutoff date no matter what it is!
Plenty of posters confirmed that and I do to. Use whatever works for you but know US Bank only acknowledges the last business day of the month (includes lines of credit and reserve lines of credit too).
Many of us pay before the last business day of the month to achieve a zero balance for CB reporting and do not use the card until after the first calendar day of the month to keep zero balances at the credit bureaus.
Your working a different perspective for a CLI but just know US Bank's habits (been this way for years)?!

Uh, yeah. I know. I have roughly a week's window to pay in and am annoyed I can't set my autopay for that window. Since the user interface is terrible, would be nice to not have to visit it to pay manually.

The autopay idea would seem the simplest. Cannot remember what I had to do to set that up? It was challenging as I recall which was a long time back before they changed their website?
Autopay gives you specific dates to choose.
I am annoyed that those dates are only the handful leading up to the due date; I cannot choose a date day or two after my statement cuts.

I got denied for too many inquiries. I had 4/12.

Data points have seemed to indicate that Elan is a little less strict than US Bank's 1/12 but yes, they are still somewhat sensitive to new accounts and inquiries @Beast26. I think we've had some approved with 4/12 but it may depend on overall profile. It appears to me that 2/12 or 3/12 or maybe a little more is much more likely approval with Elan than with US Bank.
