AMEX recently FR'd me and asked to provide a tax return which i could not due not to residing in the US and not filing taxes here. I decided to close my accounts and will reapply in a few months later
I did file a return for 2023 just now given that i have eanred some commission (not from employment), but that will not be available for some time and the income from this will be pretty low - about 10K
If i reapply and get FR'd again or get asked for 4506 during the applicaiton process, there will be a return but given the very low income, would they look at bank statements? My bank statements have had a lot of cash flow, but obviously this is not reflected on the return. Would they even consider bank statements if i were to get hit with anothe FR? I assume getting approved will at least be possible with low income, i will just have a low credit limit. But i am wondering if i will just get capped at something like 1K following an FR (assuming they don't care about anything else other than tax return) or if they do consider bank statements ?
With Amex, it can be a crap shoot as to documents they want. It can be anything as I personally have witnessed. It could be tax returns, it could be bank statements. My dad, when he applied, was asked by Amex, for a letter from a bank officer and phone number to representative, that could confirm he lived at home because of his age. They will not budge unless they get the specific documents they want. As far as limit, that's decided on normal factors, income, score, dti, etc.
I thikn with your dad, this sounds like a fraud check (which i recently had). I am just wondering if they consider bank statements as proof of *non-taxable* income if i tell them i have a low income, because my tax return has little income to show for it
