I am trying to decide whether to apply for a secured or unsecured card. My score is only about 660 and I'm afraid that I'll be rejected and worsen my score with inquiries.
On the other hand, will a secured card improve my score at this point? I don't have any credit cards at the moment.
Secured cards score the same as unsecured cards. Pick one up, without it or any other loans/credit your score wont be going anywhere fast.
Is that your FICO score? You could probably get a Quicksilver One or Barclaycard Rewards (for Average Credit) with that score (of course, there is more than just the score to it)
Yes. That's my FICO.

What credit do you currently have?
Any Baddies?
How long is your credit history?
No credit right now. I just finished payinf off a car in September. I have had a bankruptcy in the past though.

how old is the bk?
I would go to capitalone.com and go do the "Check for pre-qualified offers"
if you get "Congrats here is an offer, I would apply... if you get "we are unable to find any offers BUT - DONT APPLY
You could try Barclaycard prequalifier, they can be ok with BK showing.

I would suggest one of two things. You can apply for a unsecured credit card at a bank branch (WF, BofA or a local CU). If they don't approve it a lot of times they'll counter with a secured card. Or apply for a store card backed by GE such as Walmart, they approve with lower scores. They might give you a low CL but you can request CLI every few months. Once you grow your store card and score you can apply for other cards.
With this pre-qualifier do you know how it works?
I just put my info in and it popped up with a "recommended" card.
Are they saying that you could possibly be approved for the recommended card?
Sorry, new to the boards.
