Help with Credit Card.

I need some assistance on applying for a new credit card.

My Info:

From truecredit:

TU: 718

EX: 663

EQ: 606

My just checked my Fico score on Equifax & it says 689.

My last late payment was December 2007.

I have 1 derogatory on my report - older than a year .

I have 8 accounts total on my report - 5 closed & 3 open:

Open cards:

Victoria Secret - $0 balance,

Department store $0 balance

Capital one - $150 balance - I paid it off in full today, so it will not show for a couple of days, I don't plan on using this card that much if at all. This has a $200 limit, I got it a couple of years ago when I was in college, I didn't increase the limit & I didn't want to get into further trouble.

No Mortgage or loans.

My credit history :18 yrs

The inquiries on my report:

TU: 2 - the last was in June 2007

EX: 1 - was in May 2008

EQ: none.

I have a checking account with Citibank & gets direct deposit.

My income is not great - $32K a year.

I plan on traveling starting in January of next year & plan on traveling internationally at least 1 a year.

I do not want to use my debit card when I travel - so I need a credit card ( 2 preferable).

I do not want to just apply for a credit card and get denied & take a hit on my report for nothing.

I would like to get some advice on which credit cards I would have the greatest success in getting - ones I can use internationally - Visa/MC/AX. I do not plan on using it for "everyday" use.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with Credit Card.

USA Today has an article with a list of cards with a focus on foreign exchange fees:

Which credit and debit cards are best overseas?

The article recommends a credit card for purchases and debit card for ATM cash withdrawels. Your Capital One card should have 0% forex -- can't get better than that, except for the low limit.

Re: Help with Credit Card.

Thanks

I did say that article.

I was more in the line wondering what credit card companies I would have a better chance of getting with what I posted.

Anyway I apply for 2 yesterday. Capital One & AmericanDreamcard.

Capital One did a pull on TU today..didn't see ant foll from AmericanDream.

I plan on trying either BoA and Citi bank, but I will wait about a week or so to see what happen with the 2 that I applied for.

Or should I just go ahead and apply for BoA or Citi?

Re: Help with Credit Card.

Try the BoA preapproval site.  That way its only a soft INQ to get you started.

Re: Help with Credit Card.

Alliant Credit Union Visa has a 1% forex fee, but I don't know what criteria they use for credit card approvals.
