I'm not sure how I've done it, but apparently I've stayed in the good graces of Amex. I opened my Blue (my first AX ever) in March with an initial $4,500 CL. Then I followed the advice here to request a CLI of no more than 3x after 90 days, so in June I went to $12,500. I just made a $500 online payment before my statement drops tonight to get my util on this card below 10% for the month, and when I refreshed my summary of accounts page, they had upped me to $15,000. Wow!
With all the Amex horror stories floating around, I've been happy for the last several months just to not get a CLD, and I certainly didn't expect a CLI. And this with 7 (count 'em - SEVEN) new CCs and a mortgage refi this year. I know a lot of people have had problems with them, but they've been nothing but good to me so far and I continue to swear by them.
For anybody who might be curious, I use Amex (either my Blue or Gold) for absolutely everything during the month, and I always PIF. I think one month I carried over about $700 on my Blue, but I paid it off within 2 or 3 weeks into the new cycle. Between my Blue and Gold, I typically run 4-5k a month through them, although it's been a lot less the last couple. My current total util is around 7%, which is a tiny bit more than usual.
You must have hit some magic sweet spot in whatever formula they currently use for assessing their risk/reward factors in extending (or revoking) credit.
Congrats on the CLI.
Super Congrats LaserBlue!!!!
Credit limit increases from AmEx are very rare indeed
these days. You're obviously doing all the right things
(especially PIF'ing each month) and I'm glad that you are
pleased with their service.
Once again, Congrats on the increase. What a nice and
very unexpected holiday gift!!!
