I think it's because I applied over the over the last two years (See below).I'm not sure its a given once you get in the door, although they seem to be very easy to get. 

I forgot that 3 are the wife's cards...and we have two different JCP and Amazon accounts.  I'm the sole source of income and pay all the bills, so I tend to think of them as mine too

There's a few other GE backed cards that I could occasionally use if I wanted to app for them, but I don't want them bad enough to app. The high interest rates, limited places they can be used, and the hassle of keeping up with so many cards have ended my quest for any more retail cards. I only got the Lowe's card because I hope to get a house at the end of 2013 and expect it will come in handy......
