USAA started me out at $3k, then bumped to 11k and now 14k. AmEx BCP saw that and started me at $19.3k, now 21.8k. Discover has been more conservative, $2k->2.5k->4k->5.5k so far.
Had a CapOne non-rewards no AF $2k limit card, AMEX trippled it when I got the AMEX Blue 6k CL, Chase Freedom 3k CL, Ap'd and get Citi Home Depot card and CLI'd to 4k CL, Got a pre-approved Omaha First National Bank Discover card 6k CL (matched my AMEX blue), Got a CLI on my GE Amazon store card to 2.5k, and CLI'd my GE Walmart Store Card to 1700.
Waiting till the end of the year for a few baddies to fall off and some INQ's hopefully get a score boost back to the 720's again and then request CLI on my Amex Blue and Chase Freedom, Average CL is now $1918.00
The secret of High CLs is Time, 700's FICO's and good income. And requesting CLI's on lower cards, it doesn't hurt to focus on cards that have a good CLI history, GE's backed cards are my favorite.
I believe I got out of toy limits by opening 2 secured credit cards, letting baddies drop and keeping my applying limited. It did take a while though. I'm talking years.
Being patient, dont go apping for cards. AmEx may 3x CLI you, but to think you will have 15k in one year is very unrealistic unless you have other large limit cards.

I closed many of my cards that were under $500. I've been applied at a credit union they gave me $5000, after that I was able to get 14,000 from navy federal credit.
SMUG, did you get that $5000 cl through a local credit union or one of the more popular CU known here on MYFico? Which CR did they pull, if you don't mind my asking?

GE backed cards have helped me get 'big boy' limits:
Wmt Disc $5,000
BR Visa $7,000
Paypal Plat MC $7,000
Lowe's $12,000
JCP $4,900
Amazon $1,900
Chevron $1,500
As you can see, GE limits will grow with ya ;-)
do high limit store cards help in getting a high limit revolvers (visa/mc)?
