At the moment, I am carrying 3 credit cards and 2 gift cards. Sallie Mae has taken over general spend due to promos, Discover for the 2x just in case, Amex Costco for my weekly poultry run. $50 Arco gas card for when I don't want to wait in an absurd Costco line and a target gift card from a return that I have yet to spend.
Currently am carrying 9 cards so that I can spread out the use. Finally figured out that that is not very smart, because rewards are spread too thin and across too broad an area. Am now in the process of trying to determine what three cards I would rather carry and use. The cards I carry are noted in my signature. Minus the store card, what three cards do you recommend that I carry?

Hmm, depending on your grocery spend, maybe Sallie Mae, AARP, and Discover?
I just carry my three cards, my debit card, my license, health insurance cards, and some other random ones (point card for American Eagle, myPanera card, etc.).
Quicksilver $10,000 | Better Balance Rewards $2000 | Sallie Mae $3500 | Freedom $3500Currently: Prestige, Double Cash, Freedom, Discover Debit for the occasional ATM trip.
I usually only carry two credit cards at any given time in my no fold wallet. A true minimalist. One of those two is my trusted Sapphire Preferred. For card #2 I alternate between the other cards I have. I also do carry my debit card. Yes..sometimes one just needs a little cash.

Enough to make my butt cheek ache and start a prickly heat rash at the end of a long day
