if there is even a stitch of error with your membership, they will shut down your accounts. I'm as legit as they come, and they even shut down my account after I set it up, requiring me to drive 45 minutes to the local branch, to provide all the proper paperwork/ID's. I applied and was approved for checking/savings, visa siggy, and LOC, and then 4 days later, my accounts were untouchable and I had to go handle all this. You wont get past them if you try anything fishy.
If you are wanting high CL's, why not go with AMEX and wait the 61 days for a nice CLI? Or, as others say, join the military for the benefits(we get much...much more benefits than just that) i notice you live in monterey. Active military gets free entry to the aqarium there 
Does it have to be NFCU? I am going to apply for DCU next year. I am not applying now b/c I don't want the HP and I don't really need another account. DCU also CO OP with other CU if the are not located in your area. I am able to join b/c my employer is on the list! I know the feeling when you really want to join a good credit union do to all they hype you hear! Good Luck!

Right, I've been caught that way before, believing anonymous claims on the internet. Someone adopts you, and then it's too late when you explain "I meant 'nearly potty trained'"
