forgive me for my ignorance, but approval only after university enrollment; couldn't that be because you applied for the student discover? i have known for a long time now that you have to be a university student for the student discover card approval.

By most University standards, if you fail to register for classes for one semester, they require you to officially withdraw, thus you would not be deemed a student of the University -- and then you would have to re-apply for admission all over again.
