I remember doing research before but somehow missed this.. I always thought they expire if there's no redemption or points activity in the past 12 months. But I just saw this in an email (Platinum Elite status came with the card offer IIRC):

The card gives elite status, and points don't expire for people with elite status.
Of course, points can and do tend to lose value. The highest hotel award category cost 50k two or three years ago. Now it's 60k. With the integration of Kimpton into Rewards Club, some hotels are going to cost 70k.
I use every card I have at least once every few months to be safe.

^ Exactly that.
Of course points aren't always going to have a set value, but how you earn and when/how you use them can swing the value of them quite a ways. I've been Spire for two years so I get the 100% points bonus, the 25k point bonus, plus a percentage of points returned due to having the IHG MC. I've used 6 free nights and cashed out $700 in gift cards (229,075 points thanks to the current 15% off sale) but still have 50k points, and I've only just this week started to log rollover nights for Spire.
I have a tough time seeing Kimpton out-pricing Intercontinental, but maybe that's a thing.

I would be shocked if several ICs aren't soon added to the 70k group.
