I'm gunning for the Amazon Rewards Visa, but I read nothing but bad reviews about it (closed account before first purchase can even be made, CL fluctuations, frozen account for "fraud" prevention with no notice ect) I have also read a few articles here that Chase in general does not like it if you don't spend enough money with them and will close your account if you dont. Is this true or just cases of bad users/exaggeration?

No issues with the Amazon Visa for me. My only complaints with Chase are the no haggle APRs for life and the HP for CLI's that result in small increases to no increase. Compared to some of the other large banks, they are conservative with both IME. Not a fan of their rip off bank accounts at all.

That said, I use them like any of the rest. I don't walk on eggshells for them or any other lender. They can shut you down whenever they want, like any lender. It doesn't matter what the reason is. My Chase cards are some of the least used cards of the pack. Don't believe all the sky is falling hoopla. In the past, I've went several years without using their card, before I was contacted and requested to call in to tell them I wanted it to remain active. I opened up the Amazon Visa following a 2 year blitz of mostly methodical apping. No one has showed up at my door or contacted me about CLDing or closing accounts. Just stay away from Bit coin or any of that stuff with their cards, you'll be fine.

If you want it, get it.

Re: Is Chase as bad as they say?

Chase is very conservative and unforgiving. Many years ago before it was Chase bank in Michigan it was Bank One. I must admit to burning them in the early 2000's. Over twelve years ago now. It was under $250 (maybe under $200). Purchasing tickets on Southwest I had a pop up that said I was pre-approved, apply for the Chase card. I knew nothing of the 5/24 rule (I was well over) or that Chase would blacklist someone forever. I applied and was denied. It cost be two hard pulls that will be off my CR's next week. I did try CSR to plead my case. No go. I did request  Chase to send me something regarding the unpaid charge. It is not on my CR. I was going to pay it. Never received anything. AmEx SCL was $10K (Now $16K) and Discover was $13.5K (Now $22.1K) two days before I applied to Chase. I do have a checking account with Chase and I saw my first pre-qualified offers today. I am gardening at least until August when I will be at 3/24. Citi AA (SCL $6K) and US Bank (SCL $4.5K, now $6K) have also come through since Chase denied me

Re: Is Chase as bad as they say?

Ok so i just looked into what the 5/24 rule is after hearing it mentioned so much. Does anyone know if a Fingerhut account (that i have never touched, i just grabbed it from a prequal offer when i was new) is considered a credit card by them? If it is then it pushes me to my 5 limit till a  card ages out in 4 months.

As most have said, there are few problems with Chase.   Are you getting the card confused with the Amazon Store Card?   That issuer certainly has some reputation here

Re: Is Chase as bad as they say?

No it's the Amazon Visa from Chase. On credit karma and Amazon it's pretty bashed to steer clear of it. From what I've read here Chase is pretty conservative and a cautious lender so it's probably just bad users.

Store cards don't count towards 5/24, supposedly. Don't expect a guaranteed accurate response with that question.

I barely trust the product reviews on Amazon as it is, and I certainly wouldn't take advice from Joe Blow on Amazon when it comes to credit.
