Keep or close Cap1 Quicksilver?

Hello all!

I am trying to decide whether to keep or close my Cap1 Quicksilver card. I opened this one (originally a rebuilder Platinum) in 12/2019. It was originally a $500 credit line, but it increased after the Credit Steps to $750. I have other, much better, cards like my Alliant Rewards (flat 2% cash back) or my Regions Cash Rewards (which also offers a flat 1.5%). According to my calculations, I would qualify for a CLI from Cap1 in January, but I am just not sure if it is worth my time and effort to keep putting spend on this card. What if they give me a $100 CLI after 6 months of heavy usage and PIF-ing? I could just wait until January and see, but then I am reminded that the end game is still bleak in terms of growing this card.

I was hoping to PC this card to the Savor or SavorOne, but my spouse recently got that card, so I no longer have a huge need for that because I can just use his. The one thing I really like about this card is the virtual card numbers, which none of my other cards have. I have also read about quite a few people on here who have been bucketed and were not able to grow a card like this, so let me know your thoughts on this down below.

Personally, Id let it go in your situation since thats my future plan. If you want to take a wait and see approach on the CLI go for it, but keep your expectations rock bottom.

Realistically, you may be offered a $100 credit limit increase. Best to temper your expectations so you do not get disappointed.

Based on this feature, that may be a reason for you to retain the card. If no annual fee, no harm in keeping it open.

Re: Keep or close Cap1 Quicksilver?

I got Savor for the $500 SUB and PCed to QS after a year. I got rid of it about three months after that as it served no ongoing purpose.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

So, the account appears to be roughly ~10 months in age, right?

From the point of getting the bump after credit steps, how much are you running through it on average?  Since I'm fairly certain that Capital One is unlikely to bump your CL to anything close to ~$5K come January, and aside from the virtual CC numbers benefit, how much do you value the card given your other accounts?

@wasCB14, interesting DP on the PC.  Can the QS be PC'd to Savor?  I remember there were some restrictions a while back.   Unless I missed the memo 😬

I've been running about $800 a month through it. I am not expecting a huge jump, but I would at least like to see the credit line hit $1,000 or $1,500 on this card. Although, just $250 would still be pretty lame. I just keep thinking that I am losing money on each swipe using this card as well as neglecting the other lenders who have given me much higher credit lines. I've also been trying to get to a place where I can keep my utilization in a good place without having to pay down my balances so aggressively, which is challenging with a credit line of $750.

The general experience is that nothing can be PCed to a Savor or Savor One. They have required direct applications. I couldn't even go from Savor to Savor One.

Any exceptions to the above have been very limited.

If you're losing cb on swiping this card, then I wouldn't worry about trying to force miniscule CLI's w/ monthly spend, since you already have better options.  And, as you say, you have other 1.5%+ cards, so you don't need the QS for uncategorized spend.  If the virtual card numbers are the main benefit you get from the card, I'd either 1) keep it open just for that, if a $750 CL is enough for that use or 2) app for a new, non-bucketed QS, as long as you think that's something your profile now supports.

Re: Keep or close Cap1 Quicksilver?

I have the same card at 500. Mine started at 300 last February.

Since then I've been approved for Discover IT 5% rotating categories and NFCU More Rewards 3% on a lot.

I don't go out of my way to spend a lot on my Quicksilver because I know its not gonna grow.

I'd rather put all that spend on a card that is gonna put some money back in my pocket.

But I would suggest keeping it open since you don't have an AF.

NFCU More Rewards 28K CL
NFCU Cash Rewards 16K CL
Citi Custom Cash 7.5K CL
AODFCU Visa Sig 5K CL
Discover IT 2.5K CL
Capital One QS 3600 CL
