Does anyone know where I can find a list of qualifiying Department stores for Discover IT's 5% cashback this quarter?
I've looked all over their site but nothing.. Would Marshall's or Ross be considered a department store?
Those two should be.
If you don't want to commit to a large purchase, one game you can play is to buy a small item at the store with the Discover, and then in a few days it will have posted to your Discover on-line account, and you can check the details about how it was coded. I think it is Discover that gives you a big colorful marker on the category spend items, so you know you just got 5%.
Ok, just looked this up. The definition in the fine print was "Department stores are defined as retailers selling a wide variety of merchandise, with separate checkout counters in each department" I'm sure there are stores they'll approve for the 5% and aren't on this list.
DEPARTMENT STORES
Well, considering Ross has all their registers at one side of the store, I am not sure if it counts or not. Discover classifies Ross as a DISCOUNT STORE:

Score! I just had to get fitted for two new three piece suits since bulking up around the shoulders at Nord's.
Yeah, I don't really have much interest in a Discover card long term but Nord's is the only place that has the shoes I'd like to get, and 10% back there on that price tag, well, would not suck. New place to decorate + that and rounded out with some clothes which I'll need to get sometime... just not hard to hit the full monty 10% CB as a new cardholder.
Meh. Guess I will become a churner by default if this keeps up. Or worse looking at their rewards site for this quarter: Amazon.com gift cards

The only discount stores would be the ones run by department stores (Nordstrom Rack, Off 5th, Last Call, etc)
Do any of these stores sell VGCs? I know they sell their own gift cards of course. $1500 in 3 months at one of these stores would be too much of a luxury for me, but I'd buy VGCs if they stock them.
