Lowe's Project Card

I had a Lowe's Project Card account with a $6500 limit (that was the amount I requested when I applied). I have made all the payments on time for the last two years. In February, Lowe's discontinued the Project Card program. People with balances can still make payments, but you can no longer charge to the Project Card because the program has been shut down.

Two weeks ago, I applied for a Lowe's consumer credit card and was denied because of "poor performance in the program." Because I have made all my payments on time (and I have better-than-average credit scores) I made an inquiry about what "poor performance" meant. Today I got a form-letter reply indicating that the "poor performance" was the fact that the account was closed.

Seriously? They discontinue the Project Card program and then turn me down because they closed my account because they discontinued the Project Card? It's a Catch 22, and I can't find anyone at Lowe's who gets it, and will give me a straight answer. Has anyone else run into this? What do you suggest? (Other than taking my business to Home Depot, which is definitely in the cards here.)

Wow. Bureaucracy in action.

I don't know a thing about the situation, but I'm curious to see what others have to say.

You need to call in to a backdoor number and talk to an underwriter... They have basically merged the two cards now, I'm surprised they didn't put your then current Project card over to a Consumer Card as how it will be done moving forward by the looks of it with their 84 month program.

Call backdoor number out of sticky thread above and talk directly with credit about recon the app or transfering this old 6500 to a consumer account.

I'll give the underwriter a try. Shouldn't have to beg for this though.

FYI, they won't just transfer the Project Card balance to a regular Lowe's card. I tried that. And it's really crappy that they shut down the Project Card program, because now it's showing on my credit as a "closed account" and it looks like they cut me off, when that's not what happened.

Really, I'm curious to know if this has happened to anyone else. Lowe's is treating me like I'm the only person on the planet who has this issue.

Re: Lowe's Project Card

That's really weird because I went to Lowes today and noticed that they all kinds of posters and flyers displaying the Project card. If its discontinued, I wonder why they'd still be advertising for it...
