Re: Macy's setting up two accounts under false pretense

Again, to clarify, I have no issue with Macy's credit cards. I rarely used my original card. My knock as you put it is on Macy's setting up a 2nd line of credit without my approval. I can appreciate that mistakes happen if that was the case, but that does not dismiss my concern with them.

Re: Macy's setting up two accounts under false pretense

Could you please help me understand how this explains having two lines of credit when only one line of credit was needed and it already been established?

I agree with the other poster, I think you may have been upgraded to a better card.  Maybe it's worth a call to Macy's to ask them.

Re: Macy's setting up two accounts under false pretense

If you are still not understanding what happened then maybe the issue was with you and not the representative from Macys. You applied for a different product which is how you ended up with a store card and an AMEX. And best of luck to you trying to dispute this, because they will say that you agreed to the terms and signed when you applied as I'm certain you signed when you were "re-opening" the old account.

Sorry, you are wrong. I applied for one card in 2005. I did not request a 2nd line of credit.

By the way, I do appreciate all input. I have to be open-minded and accept constructive criticism or otherwise. I like Macy's as a company. My intention was not to bash the company so to speak, but the issue at hand does concern me. Thank you!

Re: Macy's setting up two accounts under false pretense

Ok going back to your original post, please forgive me if im confused lol, so it seems when you went to mske a purchase you were informed that your 11 year old Macys was closed and they offered to reopen it to help with your purchase. You had no idea they would be opening a new account, in this case the Amex version, as you were under the impression this was only to reopen your card. If that was the case i can see how its miscontrued by the cashier because obviously they will tell you they can reopen your account, they cant but i assume they just want to get you to apply. It is sneaky to be sure. The thing is is very hard to get a once closed for inactivity csrd reopened.

Ok, not sure we are clear on that part. Then once you realize you have 2 accounts listed on your reports reporting as open this is where you have issue correct?. I know for sure Equifax is kooky and they hsve closed accounts of mine still showing as open ( currently disputing those) but i guess it can be agravating to see this. Did you not tecieve the Amex card either and if so did you call immediately to dispute the validity of the second line being opened?

Again sorry if im confused, got me some Wednesday midweek blues lolSmiley Wink

Re: Macy's setting up two accounts under false pretense

You are 100% correct. I have never carried the original card and have no recollection of receiving the new card. However, when I looked at my credit report and saw the two accounts I checked a box in my den and found both cards. The new card still had the sticker on it to activate. I must have seen a new car but as soon as this replacement. Thanks

I must have seen the new card and assumed that it was a replacement.
