Just so you are aware, the Macy's AMEX when offered as a 2nd line of credit will have its own opening date. Personally, I wouldn't have closed either one. You already had the dip in AAoA, but you'll have a bigger dip in AAoA when your 2005 Macy's card falls off your CRs in ~10 years. Sometimes it's better just to leave well enough alone. The damage was already done and it would have never been any worse.

I agree, too. Macy's definitely could have provided much better information at all levels on this issue, and that is a problem. I could understanding closing the accounts on principle, although there's something to be said for simply making the best of a less-than-ideal situation.
