Re: Major Chase Freedom Revamp - Effective 9/15/20

I'm already pretty well covered for Dining between Altitude Go and Cash+, but this is a nice alternative.   Drugstores will come in handy; it matches the Apple Card 3% Walgreens and beats the other drugstores, for sure.

I was always afraid of that. That's why I never considered the trifecta. Takes too much time to build that infrastructure and then, poof.

Re: Major Chase Freedom Revamp - Effective 9/15/20

I don't think I'll do the Freedom PC to Flex just to pick up some WEMC benefits. I'd rather take it as a new card member bonus down the line. I just don't use the WEMC benefits at all right now. CFU I'll probably switch over to as my primary dining card but I'll keep CSP set up with Doordash since that is $4 to $8 dollars off per order.

The question is would I want to put non-Hyatt spend on AMEX Green or do it on the CFU. I might be better to just stick with the AMEX Green since I can go onto Hotels.com and double dip with a shopping portal and earn a free night in 10. That or find a better deal on another site. I don't really want to load up my CFU with discretionary vacation spending however dining is a resonable use for it.

A couple of things we can summize regarding Freedom Flex:

  1. Dining will no longer be a rotating category
  2. Ordering through Postmates may be the most profittable way to earn points while ordering in.
    1. Freedom Flex has 3% back on dining and an added benefit of MC World Elite is:

$5 off every purchase of $25 or more (not including delivery fees, tips and taxes). Postmates provides on-demand delivery from hundreds of thousands of restaurants and stores across the US.5

This is kind of interesting but it makes me kind of sad because dining is one of my bigger spend categories and I liked having 3% on my Marvel card and 5% during that quarter under Freedom. Now my Marvel card is basically getting SD'd except for a couple recurring entertaining purchases I have on it.

That's one of the reasons for the changes. Knocking competing cards off their stilts.

Plus you can get one time award offers from all the shopping portals through postmates of substantial value.

Re: Major Chase Freedom Revamp - Effective 9/15/20

Chase seems to be announcing something every quarter with its cards lately.

What if in December they announce new CSP/CSR benefits that overlap with the Freedom line? This is why I don't think its worth it to PC to Flex until we know what CSP/CSR is going to offer. Maybe CSP goes WEMC but if you already have it you can't get a new card member bonus so you might as well PC that one.

Re: Major Chase Freedom Revamp - Effective 9/15/20

I keep wanting to get excited about this change, but then I remember my Navy Federal More Rewards card is already 3% cash back on dining, AS WELL AS supermarkets and gas stations! No annual fee. Not to mention low interest rates, no fees, etc.

I am more curious to see what happens to CSR. Maybe it gets 3x supermarkets. It should be 4x travel, dining, supermarkets, in my opinion.

By the way, U.S. Bank Altitude Go is 4% cash back dining. No annual fee.

Re: Major Chase Freedom Revamp - Effective 9/15/20

If I had to guess the CSR will be 5x dining/5x travel buff or as others mentioned wont be able to transfer between cards although with travel uncertain for alot of people still I tend to believe another buff is coming on the CSR.  CSP/CSR do have primary rental car coverage and door dash credit and lyft credit (although kinda worthless atm being lyft).  Be interesting as just paid my AF of 450 last month the new freedom looks nice and something have to give on the CSP/CSR side imho being a buff after this announcement.

Not like people are eating out near as much anymore or traveling as much anymore so their expenses for majority would be fairly small and still giving a buff..  I know my dining out has gone down about 2k a month and well obviously travel has as well.  I miss my fancy steak houses and settle for carry-out or jsut cooking at home recently Smiley Sad.

You're right on the time. I was planning to CLI -> PC my CSP to CSR this Fall but now with this shake up I have to wait for who-knows-how-long to see how the Sapphire line gets altered. Although news like this always brings out more questions than answers I suppose.

Re: Major Chase Freedom Revamp - Effective 9/15/20

I would really hope some update is coming to the CSR and CSP. Primary insurance isn't really enough to justify the fees for these cards without an increase now that CF is earning 3% dining.
