Re: Mercury credit card

I've been having my Mercury card since 09/2014 when it was with Barclay at a $1k limit. I've only gotten two CLIs & they were both right behind another card's CLI with the most recent increase being some odd amount like $930 or so. My limit is currently $4880 after 10 years of having the card. I do admit it's not one of my higher utilization cards ao that could be the reason too. They won't be either.

I didn't ever technically get an invite from them either.  I got a link to apply through either CK or Experian (I think it was EXP more than CK) almost immediately after my BK was discharged.

Re: Mercury credit card

I applied for the Mercury Visa CC because Credit Karma told me that I had an excellent chance of approval with a starting credit limit of $4500 so I applied and was instantly approved for the full $4500. My application came about 1.5 years post Chapter 7 discharge and I couldn't be happier. I only use the card for Amazon purchases which typically average about $700 worth of purchases every month and I pay the statement balance off in full every month since I've owned the card. It has a decent rewards system and I've only had the card for 4 months so I have yet to see any credit limit increases but I am very hopeful. I have several other major credit cards but none of them get more use than my Mercury card. It is my favorite card and I plan to hold on to it for life!

Re: Mercury credit card

I know this is old, but I really wanted to talk up the Mercury card for us in rebuild status.

I had 2 cards go into collections and a cell phone bill also go into collections for a total of approx $1800 in debt. It's not terrible, unless you're poor. Then, it's a mountain.

Once my husband and I started getting promotions with age and time and having more money, wanting to buy a house, cars, etc. We were advised on how to build credit by our mortgage broker. We were at 580 (me) and 560 (him), respectively.

My husband opened a secured Open Sky credit card, as advised by the MB.

I got an offer from Capital One a couple months after he'd gotten his card. That card had a $300 limit. We set up one bill to pay on that card and then set up auto pay so we'd have a continuous record of payments. We started getting more offers over the last couple of years. His highest credit limit is 7k, and my highest credit limit is 20k. Personally, I have 129k in available credit at 3% utilization. My first "higher limit" card was Mercury. It was my 3rd card within a few months of having any credit card. At that time, I had 2 Cap One cards. Limits of $600 and $300.

Mercury sent me a pre-approval letter in the mail for a card with the same high interest rate of all of my cards, but a limit of 3k! I jumped on the opportunity.

I've made payments for every bit of 2 years. They give auto limit raises, if you're in good standing, annually.

My current limit is $5500, and I'm due for a limit raise soon.

I'm not sure if I will get anymore raises since I've only been able to find people with limits of 5k online. I am hopeful, though. We will see!

I got my email that I'm doing a good job a couple of months ago. That email comes shortly before the increase, so here's hoping! Good job everyone!

Re: Mercury credit card

I never applied for my Mercury, I had the Barclay card from 2014 that got converted over to Mercury in 2018. I still have it, and it was good to me for a while when my credit wasn't the best. No AF, and had 2% gas/groceries/utilities, 1% everything else, which was unique for me at the time (utilities). High APR althought at one point it was my highest limit card going from 2300 to 3250.

Re: Mercury credit card

@Buzzybee34  I very surprizingly started with a $5K limit. How often do you received CLIs? I'm wondering if mine will grow from there. I've had it for a little over 2 years. It gets occassional use. Sometimes big purchases of $3K or more and sometimes a series of smaller ones. It's not my daily driver though.
