Most generous CU thats open to all

Hello all!

I was just curious... which credit union (that anyone can join) would you consider to be the most generous with credit lines and CC approval standards? I know everyone's situation is different, just curious about everyone's experiences. Thanks!

OCCU does not have geographical or membership requirements (so no "donations" to various organizations as a prerequisite to join).  I also have not heard of them asking for income verification for card limits $20k and under, which is something CUs typically want to see up front for lines of credit.

Remember a reputation for big CLs doesn't override everything though, some people report $1K limits with Duck/Beaver, and also some rejections.

What type of credit? Excellent, average, or below average?   Overall I agree with the others that the Duck CU tends to be the generous CU of the last couple months.

And, agree with the others as far as OCCU not having the restrictive membership component as would NFCU, PenFed, etc.

Re: Most generous CU thats open to all

The answer may depend on what you're looking for, and your credit history.

For example, Penfed is famous for giving people high CLs, but they are very conservative, and lots of people have trouble.  Whether we would call this "generous" depends on whether you're one of the lucky ones who qualifies.

You might ask yourself what you're looking for with a CU -- is it just a high CL, or do you want to do a BT or cash advance, or buy a car, or a mortgage?  The OCCU cards seem to have high CLs, but also a 3% fee for BTs and cash advances, and may not be a good choice for that purpose compared to some other CUs.

You also might find that it would work better to build a personal relationship with a local CU, and not worry about the national ones at all.

Exactly that- there's a reason why my CU credit card is not only my highest limit but also best terms...CU's value the relationship much more than banks (unless you have millions, lol), so by establishing an account and a relationship with a local CU, they're more apt to give you bigger and better chances, and to look at your well-being - as opposed to reading off a prompt and if you don't fit into all 9 catagories, you're systematically declined.

YMMV
