I was able to combine both cards ($5k each) to make one $10k limit. BUT that other card still reported to my cbr's.
That card has since been CLI'ed to $15k.
So good luck!

They said they needed me to send in my info to verify my identity - so I faxed that in. Several times, as a matter of fact, since they kept saying they weren't receiving some of the papers. Of course, the person handling the case (someone from their card fraud prevention) was never available on the phone when I called, regardless of the time of day. They couldn't/wouldn't give me a direct number or extension to her, no email address, nothing. They gave me her name and fax number, and I faxed her the papers, and she was still claiming she didn't get some of them. They finally put me through to leave her voicemail so she could call me back. Did that, and did she call back? No. Instead, today, the application status is showing up as 'Voided'.
Mind you, this is after she at no point in time ever tried to contact me, I had to call 2+ times per day to find out what's going on. I'm not understanding how she was having such issues verifying my identity, considering other CCC's and banks haven't had any problems.
On the plus side, at least there wasn't a wasted pull, since they didn't even try to run my credit.
I wonder if there's an executive board I can fax/mail a complaint to, I feel she's been the most incompetent banking person I have ever dealt with in my entire life.
I would be upset. There's no excuse for that type of treatment.
You could send a fax to [Edited to remove personal information] the CEO of Navy Federal.
Since it sounds like you contacted them a lot of times, if you don't want to annoy them or make the situation worse, you might want to just put the idea on the back burner and apply some other time (I think you said you might put it off for later.).
I just got the NFCU checking and savings and as much as I'd like to apply for credit, I think I'm going to wait several months until I get some things looking better on my report. I want to establish a banking relationship with them first and then think about credit. I feel like I might have a better chance after being a good banking customer than if I applied now, being a newcomer and all.
Well, it's not like I care about annoying them at this point. The only reason I've gotten ANY answers about anything is because I kept calling them, otherwise I would have just been waiting indefinitely, since it's not like they took any effort to contact me at any point. But since they voided the application already (they confirmed that over the phone), I'd have to reapply at this point.
I think I'll just let it sit for a few months and just keep the checking + savings open with them, and try again after the summer. Maybe they'll feel better about things if I've been their member for more than a week (8 days!), and I should have a new driver's license with my updated address on it by then anyway. I'm just really shocked they're so paranoid (or "careful") about identity verfication, since I've never had a problem with any other bank before.
Really, it's not like a 2-4 month wait makes any difference in the long term, it would have just been nice to have a rewards card NOW instead of waiting. But at least I didn't get a wasted pull, so that's a plus. Maybe I'll apply again before the holidays so I can at least put that shopping on a rewards card.
FWIW (not much, I suspect ), I was a member of Navy for more than a year before I app'd for a card. I think I originally plunked about $200 in checking and used the ATM/ debit card twice before forgetting the PIN and laying it aside. It didn't seem to bother them.
Maybe they'll have replaced the rep you got stuck with by then.
I was thinking about using their debit card, but it doesn't really serve any purpose. At least my US Bank debit card has some minor rewards (if I use their terrible selection of online partners), and USAA said they still have rewards until September.
Not to mention that I've gotten into the habit of not charging anything on a debit card, I just charge everything on my credit cards and pay them off from my checking account. Some places (Aldi's comes to mind) don't take credit so I have to pay using my debit card, but for the most part I just don't see any reason why I'd ever want to pay for anything on debit instead of credit.
Edit: Typos. Always typos.
Ive banked with USAA since I was 3 years old (father was pilot on AF) I decided to expand my accounts, on Thursday (6/30) I called NFCU to see if I was eligible to open accounts with them-was told I was and opened checking/savings with them over the phone. I was going to hold off on applying for any credit products from them until I established a banking relationship especially since I applied for a USAA Amex last week and was declined/counter offered their secured card. However after reading this post along with a couple others I saw ppl with similar scores (660s) as mine get approved for decent cl's from nfcu so I called yesterday (7/1) answered the basic question about income etc and it came back with an instant approval for 7500 @ 15.1%!!!
Now i'm deciding whether or not to close my capone card. Its my oldest cc but has af of 40 and a cl of only 500 thats hasnt budged in 2 years of perfect payments and PIF

Other than Cap1 and the new NF I have a USAA Secured Amex I opened just last week with a 5k deposit ( I originally applied for an unsecured Amex and they counter offered this) and a USAA Platinum Classic Card. The USAA classic was my 2nd card after transitioning from my repairing -->rebuilding phase credit wise for me and i'm still trying to understand whether or not this card graduates, have heard different answers both on these boards and from USAA CSRs!!
