Re: Navy Federal Credit card

Not so.  My dad is retired military and he did not join first.  But I did get his dd-214 first in case my eligibility was ever questioned.  i don't think it should be because if they can search the military database for his service record, then they will certainly see me, since I had a military dependent card until I was 20 or so.

So if I am not in the military, If I want to be eligible for one of these cards, can I find someone and have them sponsor me? Is that how it works?

No, it does NOT work by sponsoring. They have an eligibility wizard on their website to see if you qualify. You do NOT want to try to game the system to get in with Navy or they will be vicious to you. They will snatch all your money and not give it back for weeks and then kick you out.

Re: Navy Federal Credit card

I just recently got my cash rewards card a month ago with a 640 CS and $7500 CL. 14 months ago I could not finance a stick of gum as I was at 488, but with help from credit repair specialist in which I paid $600 to clean up my credit, got a personal loan of 2k from NFCU paid that off and last month got my cash rewards card. NRewards card is in review status. I'm looking to put aside my two Capital one cards both $500, Orchard Bank $400 as I used them to rebuild my credit. I contract over seas but in states I make 65k. You should not have a problem at all. Been banking with NFCU since 2009 and love it. Will be buying my first home through them soon. Good luck and let the forum know how you done

I was not saying I was going to attempt something underhanded or sneaky to become a member. I was just wondering what the eligibility requirements were and if I could join without being in the military because I have heard that this firm is very liberal with CLIs....

Re: Navy Federal Credit card

Just wanted to post this about NFCU.....Received their recent letter in the mail today on a pre approved offer with acceptance number.

Decided to call the toll free number and they did my application and I was approved for the GoRewards Visa 10K limit.  I was actually blown away.

My ratios are maxed out and I tried 3 months ago with Langley CU and was denied.  Sorry dont have my exact scores but they very from the big 3

605 - 660......not very good at all, BUT NO NEGATIVES AT ALL....just very high ratios on credit limits.  I am actually nervous that they made a mistake

but would love to transfer high APRs to this.  When the Rep said approved for 10K card will arrive 7-10 days IS THAT FINAL???? HOPING

Thanks

Re: Navy Federal Credit card

I was just able to join Navy FCU because my live in boyfriend is a member. So I was able to join because I'm a household member of a current Navy FCU member. We've been living together for 2 years and I've been working like crazy on repairing my credit, just found out last week he was a member and I about died! He never told me and I've been reading all about how awesome Navy FCU is! So I signed up as fast as I could! Just had my welcome call today and the rep told me that Cash Rewards CC is the easiest to get. I crossed my fingers and closed my eyes and hit applied and hit submit..APPROVED $6000 limit!!!

I haven't been late on anything in the past 2 years. I have 5 old unpaid collections and chargeoffs that should drop off in the next 2-3 years, my fico score here today is 609. $550 is the highest limit I have on a credit card. I was supposed to be in the garden but glad I sneaked out for this one!!

I love Navy FCU already!!
