Need advice from AMEX experts

I used to have AMEX corporate card (I was with a company and they had arranged for my AMEX card to spend on company travel and then pay to AMEX directly and then get reimbursed) back in 2002-2004. I had left that company and card was closed too. It was never reported in my peronal Credit Report to TU, EX, or EQ.

The question is: If I apply any AMEX card (personal not corporate/business) now, would I have advantage of "back dating"?

Let me know your opinion.

Re: Need advice from AMEX experts

From what I understand, the answer is no. They don't mix MSDs between business and personal accounts. I have a corporate card and it is not backdated to my personal account either

If you search, there are some threads where people were able to get them to do it though

Edit: Most of the replies below suggest I am wrong and it is easily possible

In general, the answer is "No", a personal card doesn't inherit a corporate card MSD.  However, there have been reports here of people being successful in doing so.

So, if you get the card, probably worth trying, but the ods are against.

If you were the applicant and you applied as a Sole Owner. I think the answer will be a Yes.

I was able to get AMEX to backdate my personal cards to my Corporate Platinum MSD. I am an officer of the corporation but he card was applied for by my partner and I was only an AU on the corporate card since 2009. My sister added me as an AU on her PRG last year and they changed my. MSD on the PRG AU to 2009 but the credit reporting did not back date on the PRG AU card.

i then applied for my own PRG and SPG in the last 3 months and they backdated both to 2009 and credit reporting shows open dates as 6/2009 and 7/2009.

i think te best way to do it is through secured chat. Just tell them that you have been an AMEX member since whatever year it is and you would like your new card to reflect your correct MSD. They may or may not ask for your corporate card account number. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

My wife had a corporate AMEX card as well back in 2008. I don't think it shows up on her reports either. Not sure if they actually verified anything or just took our word for it, but we used the chat function and requested to correct her MSD back to 2008 and they did in within ~5min and immediately thanked her for her 6 years of business. Then shipped her a new card.

Re: Need advice from AMEX experts

Update:

I had called Amex @ 800-243-3888 and she kept me on hold and asked her Supervisor. After few minutes she came back to me and said that the MSD would be your new card MSD and it would not reflect your previous coporate card date (MSD).

Here's my take:

I know few on this forum had reported that  they were able to back date (MSD) to their previous/past corporate card. That could have been a one-off "Good Customer Service" gesture from Amex.

It is very very interesting to see if anyone from this point forward comes and report that they were able to MSD (Member Since Date) to their old coporate card.

My wife did it just last week. She got online (after I informed her what MSD was) used the chat option and asked if her MSD could be corrected. They asked what it should be, and she simply told them 2008. Which was the year she got her AMEX corporate card. They asked a few questions to confirm she was who she was, and said they have updated the MSD and thanks her for trusting AMEX for the past 6yrs, and had a new card sent out.

That is great news. The difference in your DW and my situation is:

She already had an AMEX card and then she had asked for change of MSD and they did for her. That is called customer service. Most likely she would not have encounter the department or the lady I had spoken to. I had spoken to the depratment where you can apply for new card.

In my situation its like I almost have to take a chance to apply for the AMEX card, get AMEX card and then request them to change MSD and keep my fingers crossed. Also my corporate card was in 2002. It is possible they may not have record of it?

I think from time to time, perhaps as with j_castell's wife, it seems that sometimes CSRs will take your word for it (might be too much effort to research if it isn't immediately available).   When I had my card backdated, I said I couldn't remember the exact date but it was between 1986 and 1988.   They backdated it to 1987.   After thinking more I suspect the date was 1988, but not totally sure (and not going to complain!)
