New AMEX Account, Payment Question?????????

Greetings All! Ok a quick question, I'm a new AMEX Delta Gold CC Member as of 11/28/2017......Nonetheless, I've received the card and set-up my bank account info on 12/4/2017. Since I've received the card I've charged a little over $400 on it. On last Friday 12/8/2017 I paid the charges in full. The next day I made another purchase a little over $100, but when I tried to make an online payment this AM the system is not letting me informing me that "no payment is due at this time"......Yes I'm aware of that,  but just as my Cap 1 QS I like to make multiple large payments a month, and PIF. Is there any restriction that anyone knows of cause my account is less than 30 days old? If so, is there any way around it to submit my payment? How long will the restriction, if any be in place? I refuse to pay interest but it appears as I may be forced to from what I can see this one time Smiley Sad  Thoughts and feedback is of great appreciation!

Started my credit repair journey July 2017. Starting scores from 3 Major Bureaus Mid 500's across the board.
Cap 1 QS1 ($300SL) Currently $400 CI, due to increase by credit steps 1/2018 GNOFCU SC $400.
AMEX Gold Delta Skymiles Card: $1000 SL (11/29/2017)
FICO 8 Scores: EQ 624, TU 579, and EX 626 as of 11/29/2017

Re: New AMEX Account, Payment Question?????????

You won't be charged interest on new charges if they're paid after the next statement date but before the next due date.

Amex restricts new accounts to 1 payment in the first cycle, supposedly.

ABCD, thanks! I wonder if I initiate a "bill pay" from my bank, if I can pay it this way until after the restriction is lifted?

Yes, American Express limits you to one online payment during your first billing cycle. After that you can make mid-cycle payments. You can still call CSR and ask for an account specialist (Payment Specialist), who will be able to override the limitation and make the payment for you.

Re: New AMEX Account, Payment Question?????????

The one payment thing aside, it sounds like you were trying to pay your balance to negative.  If the charges have not yet cleared and are "pending" and you have already paid all other posted charges, your balance is $0.  As stated already, no need to pay so soon to avoid interest.  Typically when people pay prior to the statement cutting, it's either because they have a small credit line that doesn't allow them to put as much spend on the card as they would like or because they are trying to control what percent of utilization is reported to the credit bureaus when the statement cuts.  You have 25 days after your next statement closes to pay for any charges made today.  So depending on the day that you make a charge, you could have up to 56 days to pay it prior to accruing interest.  Just make sure to pay the statement balance in full prior to the due date.

Re: New AMEX Account, Payment Question?????????

Thanks K-in-Boston! Yes the charges have officially posted! I was just trying to pay for it early as I'd rather PIF after a few days as my initial CL is my biggest of all 3 cards I have currently (1K), and that's the habit I've developed using my Cap 1 QS1 CC but as you indicated it was mostly due to a small credit line ($400 currently). Thanks again for the feedback!

Re: New AMEX Account, Payment Question?????????

Hey OP! I was in the same situation this morning!

My statement closes today and I wanted to do a payment to lower the reported balance. I called (800) 528-4800, explained I wanted to do another payment but the app/website wouldn't let me. Customer Service got a supervisor on the line whom override the block and processed it right away!

They explained when your account is 30 days old or younger (i.e. 1st statement has not cut), they will allow you to do 1 payment but then the system blocks you. Now I got my utilization down on the card and it shouldn't affect my scores too much, other than being a new line. Hope this helps you!

Re: New AMEX Account, Payment Question?????????

You can get around the limitation by "pushing" the payment from your bank rather than "pulling" the payment via Amex's website.  You can setup the payment in your bank's BillPay feature...just be aware that your bank might make the first payment by check which will take approx. 3 days to be credited to your account.

Re: New AMEX Account, Payment Question?????????

Amex doesn't usually report new accounts to the CRAs until two statement cut (roughly 60 days)  so no need to obsess over minimizing your balance before your first statement.
