My card (store) opened with $300 received first cli to $500 and then $1000.
My CL is 1000 but i also just have a store card. they no longer offer a visa card.
you are correct. I was just wondering if that is why his card was issued with a higher limit.
Target has been changing. I've seen some odd limits lately for their store card. The days of $200, $300, $500, and $1000 CLs are becoming a thing of the past. I still have no regrets cancelling my $200 after it was stuck there for over 3 yrs.

I went to the CS desk and the nice lady helped me submit my app. It came back instantly approved for..... (drum roll please) $600!! This is my lowest limit by a long shot and I was a little shocked. Is Target going back to issuing low limit cards again after granting larger lines late last year? I'm ok with it as I won't buy THAT much stuff there but still a bit surprised. My FICOs are in the 770-780 range.
My FICOs are in the 730 range and I got approved for a CL of $2000. Are you sure that's not just the temporary limit until you get the card in the mail?
Scientifics was your card the Target Visa card? I'm thinking it was with a limit of $2000. The store card is usually issued a limit as low as $200 and the highest I have heard of is $1000.

I opened my card on July 23, and it is the store card NOT the Visa.

I got a 2000 starting limit about a year ago. It's the regular red card. My fico is low, around 660ish. Haven't checked in a few months. No cli since opening though, stuck at 2000.
I noticed a lot of limits were considerably higher last year but lower in the last few months. I assume their charge-offs have increased again and they are trying to limit exposure.

Mine was just a few weeks ago...seems like there really isn't much sense behind the CLIs they give.
Is the limit that you receive at the store usually the same once you receive the card?

The receipt that prints out at the store says your temporary limit and the limit you will have once you get the card.
I have been stuck with $200 for the past 4 years. Not sure what to do with this card.
I have 4 Red Cards
opened:
1999-$300
2008-$1000
2009-$200
2009-$200
Never have understood the bank but I spend about $1000-$1500 a month in the store so the 5% off everything and 10% wine of 6 bottles or may adds up to a significant savings.

Which credit bureau did Target pull?
