YES
I like both USAA and NFCU. So if you qualify go for both of them.
There many diffrent rates for members and it depends on what tier of full membership you fall under that determines your rate along with your personal history of course. . The prefix USAA means you are insured by UNITED SERVICES AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION; the prefix CIC means you are insured by USAA CASUALTY INSURANCE COMPANY; the prefix GIC means you are insured by USAA GENERAL INDEMNITY COMPANY; the prefix GAR means you are insured by GARRISON PROPERTY & CASUALTY COMPANY INC; the prefix LLYD means you are insured by USAA TEXAS LLOYDS COMPANY; and the prefix LTD means your are insured by USAA LIMITED.
When you factor in SSA's and insurance divedends nothing out there is going to beat the USAA or USAA-CIC rates 99% of the time. As far as credit cards go NFCU has a history of giving higher initial CL and seems to have more flexible lending requirments then USAA. However for people with no blemishes on thier history USAA can be just as generous and tends to have lower APR. After 3-4 years CL tend to be the same regardless of which company your with and USAA's APRs tend to be lower then the avg NFCU.
Rewards are not the best in the industry however 2% on gas and groceries with no cap like the USAA amex offers year round with 10% apr and no anunal fee is nothing to sneeze at. Just make sure when you redeem for cash that you redeem over 20k point at a time to get the best return.
Number of Points Redeemed Amount ofCash Reward
3,000 | $25 |
6,000 | $50 |
12,000 | $100 |
15,000 | $125 |
20,000 | $200 |
25,000 | $250 |
30,000 | $300 |
35,000 | $350 |
45,000 | $450 |
50,000 | $500 |
60,000 | $600 |
75,000 | $750 |
100,000 | $1,000 |
