@Anonymous Ahh....good times to be had back then.  Thanks for the morning stroll down memory lane.     This card was popular back when I was still lurking in the background and had 0% of even remotely getting it so I never made an attempt but it was fun to watch others get approved.

Says you can join the University of Oregon Alumni Association to become a member (without being an alum of the school).  Cost is like $55 if you think it's worth that.  Besides the long ago $25k SLs, I never see this CU pop up on any best lists.

$500 bucks for a $500 spend is nuts, such makes me think they are desperate to issue cards. I still have my Beaver card from back in the day, rarely use it as its only 1.25% cash back and I get lower interest rates from other banks for long term finance so I just use it for a few small things 2x a year to keep it hot.

Ummm hard pass but 500 for 500 spend..  Didnt they get in trouble with the people that insured CU's for overextending their reserves or something along those lines and that is when all went south like 4 years or whatever ago?

I had the Duck card about 5 years ago and it was sock drawered. It was closed aand the reason was very murky. Something about a mix of inactivity and unable to extend me credit. No baddies, 5% utilization, and 150k+ in available credit.

No one was ever able to find out the exact reason, it is what I suspect.

If I wanted to gamble $55 to maybe get $550 I'd go to a casino, not join an alumni association and apply for a card. Pass.
