I carry all my cards. Once instance I carried only 1 card. Wife was worried we would get mugged in the Dominican Republic so I took a Visa. Went to make a few purchass and got a card read error at each terminal. Luckily, one of the cashiers was smart enough to give my card a bath under the water cooler. Having it in my pocket and swimming at the beach tucked in a pocket, the salt water kept the chip from being read correctly.
You just never know when a card will fail and for what reason. I protect my wallet like its gold.
